Metro RailTrafficPublic Transport
Where as the need of a high capacity transit system for our cities is beyond any doubt,at a cost of Rs. 16000 crores for about 33 kms., as it stands on this day and further escalation anticipated, Bangalore Metro looks pretty expensive. Can Bangalore leapfrog into a next generation public transport system ? The answer today is a resounding "YES".

Mono off the track again

Metro RailTraffic

Does not seem long while since we were happy to see some traction with Mono rail. Even bids were being evaluated for Mono. Before we could say 'cheers' the first blow came when BMRC said Metro is too much to handle. Now, the project seems to be totally off the track with the Government changing it mind on how they want the project to be tendered.

Delhi Metro - Things to be learnt from it

After watching the program on Discovery on Delhi Metro, I was really amazed the way in which it has been done within India and an international channel like discovery has appreciated it. Vision of one man - Shreedharan is amazing. Following are the things I felt that should be incorporated in our Bangalore Metro.

The interesting Metro update

Metro Rail

Just read through Bangalore Metro's August'07 updates. Read through the first few pages of that pdf, and you realize that land acquisition seems to be delaying a few tasks - notice the schedule column, search for phrases "revised" or "after land acquisition".

These delays were always expected to be a part of the project, so no complaints there. But one key update you and I should look forward to takes the cake as far as disclosing information is concerned:

Bids received for namma metro coaches

Metro Rail

Its time to talk about the coaches but this time its not about the Indian Cricket team. BMRC said that they have received pre-qualification tenders from seven companies interested in building the coaches for namma metro.

Mono too much to handle for BMRC

Metro Rail
We had recently heard about BMRC trying to finalise the bids for Mono project. But surprisingly BMRC realised that Mono will be too much to handle with its plate already being full with Metro. It has hence submitted a plea to Govt. asking the Mono to be handled by some other agency. Looks like the Gove will oblige.

Bangalore Waiting On RITES

Metro Rail
Even if we donot always understand the whats and whys of what they do, we have all heard of the B* organizations - BBMP, BDA, BCP, BMTC, BMRC & so on. Now meet RITES, the Dilli based consultancy arm of the Indian Railways. Many of the B* orgs' projects depend on it.
