BMTC e-purse to be introduced next week

Traffic

Yes, it is almost there. In about a week, BMTC will introduce e-purse which can be used to pay for your BMTC tickets instead of cash. The first phase of the roll out will be experimental and this scheme will soon be expanded after KEONICS finds BOOT partners to implement the system. Ella OK but I have some quirks about the way it is implemented.

Mono off the track again

Metro RailTraffic

Does not seem long while since we were happy to see some traction with Mono rail. Even bids were being evaluated for Mono. Before we could say 'cheers' the first blow came when BMRC said Metro is too much to handle. Now, the project seems to be totally off the track with the Government changing it mind on how they want the project to be tendered.

Metro to encash 'Green'liness

Metro Rail
For a government controlled body, BMRC is really industrious and we have seen them taking a lot welcome steps earlier. Now, like a real smart company, BMRC plans to encash its environment friendliness using 'Carbon Bonds' from UNFCCC. Here is a kind of FAQ on that topic.

Metro Rail

Its time to talk about the coaches but this time its not about the Indian Cricket team. BMRC said that they have received pre-qualification tenders from seven companies interested in building the coaches for namma metro.

Road to airport? Not so soon!

Aviation

Everyone, even FM P. Chidambaram seems to know that when the BIAL airport will finally be ready, it wont be accessible easily. There is practicaly no high-capacity road or rail link to connect the city to the airport. Thats the reason he asked the state Govt. to expedite the work on the connectivity and get the roads ready by next 9 months.

Mono too much to handle for BMRC

Metro Rail
We had recently heard about BMRC trying to finalise the bids for Mono project. But surprisingly BMRC realised that Mono will be too much to handle with its plate already being full with Metro. It has hence submitted a plea to Govt. asking the Mono to be handled by some other agency. Looks like the Gove will oblige.

Govt considering booting NICE for BMIC

In a not-so-unexpected move, the Govt announced that it plans to replace NICE as the contractor for BMIC with a new consortium called GIC. (Source DH, VK)

"GIC has put forth a proposal indicating that it would accept the terms and conditions of the framework agreement of April 3, 1997 signed between Karnataka and NICE and would pay the cost of existing infrastructure as evaluated by an independent agency while taking over the project on as-is-where-is-basis."

BIAL Expressway in legal battle

Q: What is the last thing an express highway needs?

A: A legal bottelneck.

Go ask anyone at NICE and they would swear by it.

Coordination

We all have seen the roads that are asphalted being dug up the next day by phone companies. Then there is this case of water supply folks cutting off telephone lines or vice-versa.

Bangalore Metro round-up July 18

Metro Rail

This week seemed like a low PR activity week for Namma Metro.

BMTC to introduce e-purse

Traffic
We have been hearing about using smart cards for ticketing on BMTC buses and looks like there is some progress on that front. This TOI report says that things are being sorted out with all involved parties to introduce smart cards.

Yelliddira?

Traffic

Looks like these BMTC folks will never get enough of going high-tech. We recently wrote about easy-auto a phone/sms based service. And today we hear that BMTC is launching an SMS based service too.
