Parched summer this year

Water

Summer is already here - & it seems like we are already in May, though we are still in mid-Feb.

With summer, the usual water & power shortage looms large - & the size of the shortage keeps increasing year after year.

KIS liye JUSCO Mysore aaya ?

How can a small almost unknown for profit company be made to spread its wings all over india. Todays news says it has grabbed a small project in Chennai for water leakage detection.

The changing face of Bengalooru lakes over a 9 year period - a study

The latest version of Google earth has introduced a new feature of viewing the earth at different periods of time, starting with the year 2000. This allows us to see the changes on any part of the earth over a given period of time starting with the year 2000. I had listed in my earlier blog entry about 48 lakes as on May 15, 2009.

Importance of Lakes in and around Bengalooru for drinking water needs of the city

LakesWater

The city of Bengalooru had plenty of lakes earlier. Unfortunately due to lack of concern and unabashed greed, a lot of them are extinct now. Lakes are a very important aspect in the over all water management for a city like Bengalooru. (Some rivers were flowing through the city of Bangalore, I believe).

JUSCO Award for water supply to Mysore Citizens

Dear All, particularly Mysore Prajas

Lot of discussions/protests/street shows/VV Water Works employees protests are going on about award of JNNURM funded contract to JUSCO to be executed for ensuring 24X7 water supply to Mysoreans who are badly affected by irregular supply of all types of water at odd hours etc. etc.

Bangalore, and water - urgency?

PollutionWater

Building up on their last report, Jayshree Nandi (with S Kushala) had yet another report in TOI yesterday to highlight Bangalore's water woes.

Thank you for highlighting the water woes

Water

Thank you, thank you very much Times of India, and journalists Jayashree Nandi & Aarthi R for highlighting the water woes of Bengaluru right atop your Sunday frontpage, bang next to that thing called IPL. Water shortage and quality issues came up high in Jaagore-Praja-SmartVote election issue survey here, which was a bit surprising (yeah, we know and care!). But no candidate has shown serious interest or understanding - forget solutions - for the looming water shortage faced by Namma Bengaluru.

Interested members who want to take this further, please sign up for this BWSSB tracking project which is running slow for lack of volunteers (just leave a comment there to say you want to help). We must track and understand BWSSB's projects and constraints, the understanding and impact of their initiatives (or delays) has to be taken beyond just some dedicated NGOs working in this space.

The Future - Grim Realities

An interesting presentation that I came across about the grim future :
