Mission ‘PEACE’ Reducing Noise Pollution by Autos and Honking A step towards a Peaceful & Healthy Bangalore WHO we are: A bunch of Bangalore residents who have got together to transform our city.

Road Dust In Bangalore

Pollution

During late 80's and early 90's, I used to love and look forward to the mornings-after-rainy-nights in Bangalore. Pollution was a problem then too. But such mornings with crisp, clean, clear air was something else.

Ganesha Festival & Our Environment

You may not have seen some of these pictures... but this is what happens after the festival is over. This entry (see last paragraph) seems to even imply a ban by Mumbai police.

Pollution getting worse..not by increase in vehicle numbers ?!

TIO report today says that newer vehicles on road are polluting more than the older vehicles !

"new cars in India are spewing more greenhouse gasses than older models,
pushing up emissions in Delhi alone by 72% in five years (2002-07), the Centre for Science and Environment said on Monday, releasing
its analysis of emissions data accessed from the Automotive Research Association of India."

One reason they mention is that size/power of vehicles in increasing and hence the reduction in mileage..fair enough.

Prius not for India?!

Wiki says for India's electricity generation we use: coal: 69.1%; oil: 5.4%; nuclear: 2.5%; gas:9.5%; renewable: 13.5% (.3% biomass)(2004) So using electric cars -> use more electricity -> Burining more coal -> pollute more Toyota thinks hybrid cars use in China would not reduce carbon emmissions, what would be the policy in India? So, we dont need the Reva's?

We need metro fast..

Some statistics about pollutants: Suspended Particulate matter(SPM) WHO world standard : 25/microgram/m3 SPM(Indian Standards): 200 microgram/m3 Yesterday in Bangalore: 236 microgram/m3 We are breathing about 10 times more pollutants than prescribed as safe! This is all the more reason to get the metro and other solutions in place and fast!

What's so awfully wrong with Bangalore Metro design ?

Metro RailPollutionTraffic
The basic problem with Bangalore Metro Rail design, which is a "carbon copy" of the Delhi Metro Rail design is: i. its failure to define a catchment area and ii. design for seamless integration of feeder services and metro rail system (with seamless ticketing and intermodal synchronization) - RIGHT AT THE INCEPTION.
