Bangalore Urban Planning Center

GOK and IISC will come together to establish a Center for Infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CiSTUP). I really like the idea of an institution like IISC heading this effort.

In an influential report on urbanisation by 'The Economist' magazine, it was opined that effecient transportation is what directly affects and influences urbanisation. Thus without an effective transportation strategy, urban strategy is bound to backfire or go horribly wrong.

I am very glad the GoK has proposed to study transportation and urbanisation at tandem because studying these two trends together is what will make a difference to our urban lives in the near future.

This is not only desirable but a definite neccessity now - something to look forward to ! Metro construction running late, urban development & planning a complete mess, growth rates overheated & too high, city transport in a shambles - at least we can hope for some sort of a knowledge base developing here with this.
