DH Reports: 33 lakes to get new lease of life
"The State government will set in motion its ambitious plan of rejuvenating 33 lakes in Bangalore, at a cost of Rs 294 crore, with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa launching development works at the Ullalu lake on Wednesday."
BDA will work on 12 of them (Rs 104 cr) while BBMP has 21 under their belt (Rs 190 cr).
BSY is attending quite a few inaguration / initiation ceremonies again (BBMPs elections in the horizon?)... This time, it sure is a good cause. Long overdue.
SB recently reported LDA rejuventating 3 lakes. But this announcement does not even mention LDA. Why split work between BDA & BBMP? Wouldn't it be better for one specialist agency like LDA to take full control of this - ensuring quality of works and uniformity in the process?

Some insight...
Here is some insight, from media reports in the past.
The Hindu, 18/Oct/07: GOK decides to hand over (same set as reported in today's DH) 12 lakes from LDA to BDA for rejuvenation. BDA says JNNURM funds might be used for development.
The Hindu, 23/Mar/08: BDA launches the rejuvenation program. Don't know what it means - report says BDA has 25 cr in the budget, and DPRs for JNNURM assistance is not ready yet!
Deccan Chronicle, 03/Mar/08: Lakes sink as BDA faces apathy, says the report. BDAs request for info on water bodies not answered by other departmets.
And now, BSY will be 'launching' this thing again on Wednesday. Oh well!.
