InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

I am not sure if this has been posted before on Praja, did some searching and could not find it, hence i am posting it.

I found an interesting video on the problems faced by pedestrians in Pune. This is very much applicable to any Indian city. I would rate this as one of the best (& captivating) short movies/documentaries I have seen in my entire life.

BDA dear, where is all the GIS/map data on Bangalore?

Urban DevelopmentGovernance

It is frustrating, as well as shameful. For any thinking, planning, discussions, whether for us citizens, or the government, one basic thing needed in public domain is a map. Not talking a simple map, but something that shows boundaries and jurisdictions of local govenrments, and also its assets (fire stations, water pumping stations, police stations, roads, rails, parks, lakes etc etc).

Urban Commute Vehicles

People of Bangalore have variety of ways to commute. Few take the  buses,  few drive bikes, few drive automatic scooters, few drive small cars, few drive MUVs,SUVs ,few drive large cars, few drive bicycles, few take autos and last but not the least very few walk. Everyone has their own justification for what mode of transport they are using.

Cleanliness at market place - Why are we so indifferent?

Cleanliness - That seems like an alien word outside our houses. Anything outisde of the four walls of our homes, seems no man's land and no body is responsible for anything.

Should there be two wheeler lanes near signals?

TrafficTraffic jams

I have been driving 2 wheelers for long. And now upgraded to 4 wheeler due to safety concerns. But recently I thought at least there should be 2 wheeler lanes near. I have attached my idea as picture. Yellow line means non-crossing line. This help 2 wheelers to come at front and stand in que. This idea has come to in spite of having knowledge of local driver mentality.

Food coupons - finally

HCL Infosystems' led consortium with Accor Services and Virgo Softech has bagged a contract from Madhya Pradesh government for implementing food coupon-based targeted public distribution systems (PDS) in the state.

The steeply sloping playing field

Economy

The official demand for returning the money paid by the government telecom arm, BSNL, for third-generation (3G) spectrum (turned down, for now, by the Union finance ministry) is an illustration of why the state should be kept well away from running a business — it is not possible to be both player and umpire.

Crushing bus door

Bus

A 21-year-old man was almost crushed to death when the hydraulic doors of a BMTC bus closed in on him on Sunday evening. Prannoy David Rao hurt his shoulders and chest but what hurt more was the reaction of those around: The bus conductor yelled at him and some passengers guffawed at his plight instead of rescuing him.
