Request to KMF society to reduce use of plastic materials for distributing Milk products

Environment

As we climb the Chamundi Hills Banglore, we get to see a warning board requesting us to keep the place free of plastics. I was happy to see it as I drove up. A visit to the temple and then to the exclusive Nandini Shoppe let me down completely. The outlet is selling milk products in plastic sachets which are thrown around by customers after consumption.

Elevated Coastal Expressway - Chennai

Infrastructure

Kicking off topics for our friends in Chennai with this burning issue. An elevated expressway is planned along the coast line. See here for the details. This is causing a lot of heartburn amongst the people who are questioning its utility.

Red Board buses v/s Black board buses

BusPublic Transport

BMTC's ordinary services are of 2 types-the red board catering to the suburban areas and the black board catering to the city areas. By the way of passes the red board passes have higher fares owing to the distance covered by the buses (Route no. 210 and above covering a minimum 15-20kms from city centre).

Tech savvy policing

EnforcementTraffic

A perennial complaint across cities about auto rickshaws is addressable through this proposed SMS facility. This will be more effective than a few manned auto help centres near bus and train stations since its reach will cover the entire city.

Draft National Anti-Corruption Strategy

The National Anti-Corruption Strategy represents a blue print for commitment and action by the various stakeholders to the governance process. It aims at systematic and conscious reshaping of the country’s national integrity system.

The EVM controversy

Everything else

There is worldwide acceptance of the need for a paper trail in conjunction with EVMs. Electronic voting was introduced in many countries. But serious doubts were soon raised about the security, accuracy, reliability and verifiability of electronic elections. In October 2006, the Netherlands banned the use of EVMs. In 2009, the Republic of Ireland declared a moratorium on their use.
