BMTC route changes in the recent month

In collaboration with the Bangalore Traffic police, following changes have been made in BMTC routes in Bangalore city

Diversion 1: Netkallapa circle, Basavanagudi

BMTC fare hike - mismanagement of funds?

While there have been good inputs of routes and various features like Bus Day and other things going fine there was a huge blow-rise in diesel rates by Rs.3 a litre. Immediately there was a bus fare increase announced by the transport corporations-was this hike seriously necessary??

Red board and Black board - do we still require this classification?

Today's Bangalore is quite different from what it was 10 years back. The diameter of the city at that time was lesser than what the radius of the city is at present.

BMTC bags Transport Minister's award

BMTC recieves the "Transport Minister's trophy" - and award to silence all the media, press reporters and other people who had biased attitude towards BMTC and had given it the tag "Killer"- It has been given the award for the lowest number of accidents across the Country  among the State Transport Undertakings

Pushpaks getting converted

Well one of the most horrible service provided by BMTC is the pushpak service-a single driver-cum conductor, single door, single passage with 5 seats in a row instead of 4 and is one of the least preferred bus for commuting in the city unless there is no other way to go.

Very unusual incident - Autorickshaw fare !

Well to start it it was one of the days I was in a hurry and desperately looked out for an auto. To my luck the 1st auto i asked agreed to come over to shopper's stop on Bannerghatta road from J.P.Nagar Nandini hotel

DGCA for Airlines!! Who will come for BMTC?

The latest news going on for past 2-3 days is the intervention of DGCA and slashing of the fares of the Airlines across the country - They have fixed the minimum and maximum fares that can be kept for the airlines for the distance

Using alternate routes

Having used BMTC for almost a decade, learnt many interesting experiences. To reach a place we generally prefer to travel by the shorter route and if possible direct bus. But shorter route/direct route  may not always be the faster route, and if involves changing buses might be expensive too.

Ask Me service - Query on BMTC routes

Based on major discussions in praja we have seen that the main issue in switching over to public transport is not knowing the routes of the buses as majority board are in Kannada only. Hence I just thought of starting this blog where any query regarding BMTC routes would be answered.

BMTC route allottment - sheet attached

BMTC has recently launched a document providing the red board bus routes an dnumber of buses allocated to it along with the number of trips-though timings havent been provided I think we can make use of it a bit

I have attached the document along with the file-please go through the same

Red Board buses v/s Black board buses

BMTC's ordinary services are of 2 types-the red board catering to the suburban areas and the black board catering to the city areas. By the way of passes the red board passes have higher fares owing to the distance covered by the buses (Route no. 210 and above covering a minimum 15-20kms from city centre).

Atal Sarige buses

Last week  I waited at Kanakapura road for a bus to Banashankari. There came a AS1(Atal sarige 1) and I boarded it. This bus had some advantages:

1. The fare charged between Jaraganahalli and Banashankari, a distance of about 2 1/2 kms was just Rs.2/- in a situation where all other buses charge Rs.4/-

Utilizing existing trains

Praja.in members travelled by train and proved that the trains can be cheaper and faster also. Sop why not we consider the existing options and link with BMTC buses to the IT sector areas in the city? Just a list of them: * The stations which are very well connected with BMTC buses are Krishnarajapuram,Carmelram and whitefield stations. The are closer to the IT sectors also.

1. Krishnarajapuram Junction: It has the bus stop attached to it on the outer ring road side. almost all trains bound south stop at this station. BMTC buses connect well to:

a) ITPL: 304,306,319,600 series buses

b)Mahadevapura: 500A,500C,500D,500N,500L,501,501B,502A,C-1,BIAS-8,BIAS-8A

c)Bellandur: Same as Mahadevapira except 502A

Trains from Bangalore city:

Lalbagh Express at 6:30AM Marikuppam passenger at 7AM Chennai Express at 8AM Chennai Passenger at 9:20 Bangarpet passenger at 10 Good parking facility available at city station/cantt station.

Proposal to increase fares

Following the recent increase in fuel prices,BMTC is planning to increase the fares. The same was published in the bangalore mirror newspaper of yesterday. Owing to BBMP elections and results the bus fares will be mostly increased once the poll results come out.
