As per this DNA report today, Bihar state has notified Right to Services (RSA) Act, and just look at what it promises to do

Govt hospital management heading the PPP way?

The chief minister’s idea of handing over government hospitals to non-government organisations (NGOs) as announced at an event in Shimoga does not seem to be welcomed by the city based government hospitals.

Unfair criticism of NRN and Infosys

Create excellent, world-class school textbooks in Kannada in maths and science. Encourage students to take part in Kannada events. Kannada must be made attractive to children, but not by shutting off some other language.

City station visit - report

Though it was a bit disappointing to see no-show / last minute drop-out from at least 5 guys, we enjoyed strolling around an almost empty city station on Sunday morning. Sanjeev (our resident Railways expert), Sathya, Srivatsava, Murali sir, dvsquare and myself walked end to end. Took some pics as well, here are some:

Most annoying driver behaviours

Taking off from the APAD and DDC campaigns, I thought I'll try to note down the most annoying driver behavious that I keep coming across on an almost everyday basis. Here's my list, which may not be quite exhaustive, but which is generally in the order of annoyance to me:

Voice of Praja and hand of praja

Dear Sir/ Madam,

We have learned from the time we have come to our senses that Government is a huge organization with little ability to take immediate actions due to lack of time, budget and lack of quick communication.

Even the September 11 in US happened due to lack of quick communication and lack of time to scrutinize the security norms.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Bus Day at Mysore - got ideas for KSRTC?

KSRTC is all set to start Bus Days in Mysore, they will announce firm dates and plans real soon. Their sister concern BMTC are passing all logistics related learnings from Bangalore Bus Days, and KSRTC is keen to take in input from all who care about public transport in Mysore.

Incompetence of BBMP

Lesson - Makeover of Lucknow's CBD street

Hazratganj, is the MG road of Lucknow – I visited recently since the wife is from Lucknow. I loved the old world feel of the city with its eco friendly cycle rickshaws, old stores, familiar bookstores etc – the cold north Indian December weather added to the “good feeling” but what really got me impressed was a brave project – the Hazrathganj makeover!

Inching

Happens so often in our world, but this one really got to me this morning. After waiting patiently for the light to turn green the third time, I managed to get tangled up right in the middle of the intersection - with vehicles inching in from all directions and eat into whatever little space that was left for me to pass.

Going around in circles

Within one and a half years of its opening, the rotary yield junction at the busy Krishna Rajendra (K.R.) Circle is set to get traffic signals, mainly on account of the closure of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Veedhi and opening of the alternative roads for the construction of the Vidhana Soudha underground metro station.

BBMP wants fee for on - street parking

“We(BBMP) will be charging a nominal Rs 100 per annum from vehicle owners for parking their vehicles from 10 pm to 8 am. Around 15 lakh

Ground Water Pollution / Depletion

Ground water Pollution [1] and depletion are the major threats being faced in major cities of India in general and Bangalore in particular.

Seat belts optional in Bangalore?

Is the wearing of seat belts optional in Bangalore?  On my recent visits here I find (on a quick check) less than 30% of private car drivers wear seat belts, almost no taxi driver and LCV driver wears one.
