Power and water connections only after BBMP approval

PowerWater

Aspiring house owners, beware. It would be best to stick to the sanctioned building plan, as even the smallest deviations in the form of setbacks in front, rear, left or right side of the building, height of the structure or number of floors, could leave the building in darkness and without water.

Some answers from Railways

Mukund SWR questionsMr. N. Mukund who represents the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce on the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, recently got some questions answered by the Railway Officials. Click on the image on right to see Railway's replies to his questions. Here is a quick recap of some of those, see the one on commuter rail (suburban connectivity comes under ... state government!)

Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Pune - Proposed by IL&FS

Traffic

Pune corporation recently got the Il&FS to produce a comprehensive mobility plan for the city. Not surprisingly the plan suggests a need for mega projects from Metro, BRT, Flyovers, Subways, Viaducts, Elevated roads, Bridges, Road over river - a bhelpuri of a kind.

Combining Capitalism with Welfarism

Modern capitalist states are all welfare states. Enormous bureaucracies have been created to tax the rich, regulate business, provide subsidies and special schemes to the needy, thwart environmental harm and health hazards, and so on. The list is long and keeps growing.

Meeting with South Western Railways

Promoting a comment from this post to plan and track a meeting with SWR - {admin}

contact established (with SW Rly)

Just spoke to Mr T R K Rao, Addl Divl Mgr, Bangalore Division, S W Rly. Gave him a brief on PRAJA, and invited him to visit our web-site (Sir - a warm hello to you, if you are reading this) to get a clearer understanding of what we are trying to do. He has promised to do so, and revert to me to fix a meeting, possibly in the coming week.

BMTC bus, road kerb and stands

Traffic

It helps no one except the driver of the bus when he decides not to cut left and go closer to the kerb at bus stands. Folks have to walk up, or wait on the roads, and not at the shelter (if one exists in the first place). And the bus blocks traffic on the road.

BIAL Mess - Is cat out of the bag?

There is an interesting news in Deccan Chronicle about the BIAL mess. According to this report, the reluctance on part of the private partners to infuse additional Rs. 200 crores, led to the inadequate facilities at BIA.

Offending temple

Traffic

10-yr old Sri Shirdi Sai Baba temple near Magadi Road is facing a threat of demolition by the BBMP. While the civic agency is backing the decision, saying the temple violates provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, temple authorities allege that their neighbour - wife of a high court judge - influenced the move.

Pictures from recent meetings etc

The BMLTA gang, right to left: Mythili, Dr Sudhira, Nandita, and Mr Gupta. And, from the TransInnova Summit, a presentation with Narayn's TTMC sketches. Remember his post on BMTC zones, routing and numbering!?

Next, some Praja members at last week's meeting with Mr Sood. Guess who is who:

Bangalore's new Skywalk locations

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

BBMP has come out with an EOI document for construction of 56 Skywalks with escalators in 14 packages, here it is (link to pdf)

Some of the locations that stand out in terms of utility and usefulness are,

Station and the Airport

city station 1Imagine the noise if our new international airport had no escalators to take you up from check-in area to the departure hall? 'Super shoddy', 'oh these cheapos', coin-your-expletives, or 'like our station' right? Switch over to the City station, and remember how you lugged your stuff up the stairs from the platform to the footbridge and back down again.

We can hear you say - there are porters to help. Why does the airport not save some money by arranging for 50-60 porters? Before this gets into socialism vs capitalism like arguments, analyze this.

'Safe Passage' - for pedestrians at K R Puram, Benniganahalli

Pedestrian Infrastructure

bus stand"Safe Passage" is about collecting 2.00 lacs signatures representing to emphasize need for safe pedestrian crossing at K.R.Puram Railway, Benniganahalli and ITI Colony gate. Why Signature Campaign?

As we know the gatherings once dispersed the existence of such emphasis also disappears in thin air. Signature Campaign will be in existence all the time for ever. The leaders representation will make the things happen. I am inviting leaders to take this on along with me and be a cause for this Safe Passage of innumerable lives who will reach home safely thanking every good soul who have stood for the cause.
