  • BMTC Feeder service to City Railway Stations!

    BusPublic Transport

Deccan Herald carried a news item quoting BMTC about its plans to start a feeder service connecting BMTC Bus Stand and the City Railway Station.

  • Routes introduced after February 2010

    BusPublic Transport

Following routes came into existence after the first bus day in Bangalore City by BMTC

  • Bus Day - need an anchor from Praja side

    Praja related

Few members continue to work in their own ways to support BMTC on Bus Day. But after the first few Bus Days, we have missed an "anchor" from Praja community side who could spend time with BMTC (via phone, email or meetings) to get details on next Bus Day, as well as pass our feedback and suggestions.

Calling for a Bus Day anchor from Praja communtiy side. Job description and perks if you will:

    • Get to represent all of us (Praja members) at BMTC. Get a real opportunity to understand public transportation systems and issues.
    • If needed, speak to the media to convey summary of our discussions and suggestions here.
    • Get your own special "praja.in" email id.
    • Control and Manage the Bus Day corner on this web-site

This won't be a job for life or anything like that, can rotate between multiple people as well if groups of people want to do this on a shared basis.

Leave a comment here to reply (that's the true Praja way, open and public), or drop us an email (admin at praja dot in) if you would be interested.

  • A perfect Bus Day this time, almost!

It certainly got better for me this time. Can't take the bus regularly to work because of the last mile problem (HAL airport to CV Raman Nagar, no bus, no shuttles to rely upon). So the Bus Days for me are Auto rickshaw haggle days as well.

But not this time. 314AA, a new route, goes all the way from Whitefield to Bagmane Tech Park. Too good to be true, but I was at my bus stop at 8.25, and a 314AA showed up at 8.30 am (as was told and promised by 'someone'). Nice Marco Polo equipment, 12 Rs only all the way to Bagmane Tech Park, aha!

The route is an iffy one though. Airport Road is one thing, and Kaggadaspura Main Road another. Spent 20-25 minutes (!!) to cross the narrow stretch near Railway crossing, and reached Bagmane bus stand only at 9.40 am. Got off 314AA, and hopped on to the Tech Park shuttle which circles inside the campus every 5-10 minutes. 9.50, in my office. Route Map here, red dot is where the that 25 minute jam happened.

  • BMTC invites tender for Hebbal TTMC under PPP!

    BusPublic Transport

Happened to notice a tender notification on BMTC website for the construction of TTMC at Hebbal.

The Tender document states the site overview to be "..The project site is located in the northern part of the city at Hebbal, measuring about 7.95 acres. The site is situated at the intersection of the National Highway 7 (Bellary Road) and the Outer Ring Road. The intersection along with the Hebbal flyover is an important landmark in the city and is strategically located in terms of connectivity to the new airport at Devanahalli and to different parts of the city.

As per the Bangalore Master Plan 2015, the  site land use is classified as Traffic & Transport  (T&T) category. Currently out of 7.95 acres, about 4.27 acres of the bus depot is operated by BMTC. Depot comprises of maintenance workshop, washing area, fuelling station, stores and administration building. At present, the depot is a base for about 210 buses which includes about 90 Volvo buses..."

  • June 4 - Bus day is on

    BusPublic Transport
    4 Jun 2010
    Asia/Calcutta

Not much time to interface with BMTC for this month's event, though I am sre Jenny and some others have been on. The Bus Day is very much on for June 4th.

Bus Day campaign needs a named "anchor". If Srivatsava or Bharat or someone else can just keep in touch with BMTC and posting updates from them, that should be good enough. Once in a while meetings with BMTC too will help.

  • New BMTC routes - K1/K2/K3

    BusPublic Transport

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will be introducing three routes called K1, K2 and K3.

The route K1 will connect St John’s Hospital, Sinivagilu, Domlur, Indiranagar Police Station, Ulsoor, Trinity Circle, Mayo Hall, Shivajinagar and adjoining places.

The K2 route passes through Hebbal, Devasandra, M S Ramaiah Hospital, Yeshwanthpur, ISKCON temple and adjoining roads.

K3 connects Basaveshwara bus stand, Vijayanagar MCTC, Sirsi Circle, Chamarajpet, North Road, Basavanagudi, Shanthi Talkies and adjoining roads.

A release from BMTC said that buses along these routes will be made available at a gap of 15 minutes each between 6 am to 11.15 pm.
    http://www.deccanherald.com/content/73099/bmtc-routes.html

Here they should have extended K1 upto Cantonment Station.  Also integrating with METRO stations should have been taken care as many places, these buses will be playing close the METRO stations enroot.

  • About Public Complaint Management Systems

    Governance

I just happened to create a single link for  online complaint systems for Bangalore utilities. Just to make it at one place for me to start with. Even though it is not user friendly, it brings all complaint forms together.

Request prajas to use if found suitable. I may put some more effort if someone wants improvements. With my trial complaints with BBMP I learned following: (I have indicated this in earlier posts somewhere, but I repeat)

  • TTMC - a case of total misuse of JNNURM funds

    Governance

The Jayanagar TTMC was built with a swanky futuristic look but all what’s within is huge empty spaces and leaking walls and roofs. Almost close to completing a year now, all the promises are still on paper. Apart from the busy bus service in the basement, there’s been no progress within. A quick survey of the entire building reveals nothing more than empty spaces, unfinished structures and poor quality of construction. Even the flooring and electrical wiring have not been completed. The walls and beams have already given in to the recent rain. The unfinished wiring works on the first and second floors are now seen soaked.

At a time when there is serious shortage of parking space, this TTMC has a huge park and ride provision on the terrace with a capacity of nearly 110 cars. The original idea behind it was that people could drive in, park their cars/ two-wheelers and board their bus. But, with no lifts ready yet, people are forced to walk the entire ramp up and down to park and ride. According to locals here, weekdays hardly see even 10-15 cars parked here. Even on weekends, the numbers hardly touch 20.

  • BMTC BusDay - Connectivity from HAL airport to ORR-Sarjapur road

    BusPublic Transport

Hats off to BMTC for introducing Busday and especially the Volvo services! i took the bus today to try out. But, faced problems.

I live in Kaggadasapura area. Need to come to HAL Museum first. Then take a bus towards Marathahalli. Then take another bus from Marathahalli towards Outer ring road-Sarjapur. This really makes me think many a times before taking the bus.

    a) Could have been better if there is direct service from HAL airport towards ORR-Sarjapur road. Hope BMTC takes note of this and introduce the same by next Busday.

    b) Also, from HAL airport or HAL museum, need to take multiple transports or Autos (who usually charges double the meter amount, IF meter is working) to reach GM palya, Malleshpalya, Vignannagar, Kaggadasapura. Considering the not so wide roads in these areas, if BMTC introduces mini buses to cover the following route:

HAL airport - BEML gate - GM palya - Malleshpalya - Vignannagar - Basavanangar - HAL museum

Frequency of buses could be every 15 mins (during peak hours) and every half hour after that, would be nice.

hope the BMTC authorities take notice.

    thanks

    Sam
