Sanjaynagar Traffic Diversion

I understand that the magic box underground work will commence on Bellary Main road at Sanjaynagar junction. I want to know how the bus routes will be diverted for entering from Mekhri circle to Rajgoapl Road and back.

'No' to more construction in Cubbon Park

A group of 70 city advocates, opposing any construction inside Cubbon Park, submitted a memorandum to the chief justice of the high court on Saturday. In their representation addressed to Justice P D Dinakaran, the advocates said the court should not permit construction of a multi-storeyed car parking complex and a canteen within Cubbon Park, claiming it will be an environmental disaster.

Whitefield main road - lets get help from local MLA

Some Praja members are planning to meet Mr Aravind Limbavali (Hon. minister for Higher Education and MLA from Mahadevapura) to discuss the road and traffic issues in and around Whitefield area. Of specific interest is the area between Marathalli-Varthur road and Whitefield Main road.

We are trying to reach Mr Limbavali's office to get an appointment. If you are working/living in the Whitefield area or if you are just interested in teking things forward, please join the meeting by replying to this post.

Cab Driver Culture

Cab Drivers can be called as 'insects' of Bangalore traffic. The kind of people who drive the Indicas and Sumos are usually 'bad mannered' and 'ready to fight' type of people. Autos are one type, but, since they are not as powerful as the cabs, they are 'bit better'  than these cabs (comparison among the worst). These cab drivers behave as if they are pilots of Jet planes and saving the country!!

Trademark Bengaluru Road

2008.08.20 - 16 - Mon Dernier Trajet Vers L'aeroport De Bangalore Spotted a video on Flickr uploaded by some visitor probably on his way to the airport. I don’t recognize the road in the video (not because I have been out of Bangalore for some time now), because all the roads and more importantly the road conditions are strikingly similar nowadays.

Quick observations:

Entropy on roads - examples

bus stand 1Entropy, aka chaos on the roads is a subject we have discussed a lot here. There are about a hundred comments thrown across various posts. How about consolidating those points and making them more presentable via picture posts? Here is my attempt with pictures over last two months. Look, we need to explain and understand one thing very clearly. Flyovers and road widening projects are like buying extra large clothes to deal with obesity. Some folks prefer exercises or medicines to shed some fat.

How good is your Road Safety Knowledge - Test your self against 170 questions

For some time now I have been working towards making available an Interactive road safety quiz database for Indian road users.
Here is the entire quiz database of 170 questions available as two interactive quiz e-book's to test your knowledge of road safety related issues. This is a free downloadable resource for all who are preparing to sit the theory driving test as a part of licensing procedure. The latter is rare as most states in India still have not implemented a mandatory theory test for learner drivers. Hope is that Road Traffic Authorities in India use the above as a starting point for implementing a mandatory theory test for all new learner drivers. This resource is also likely to be a perfect way of refreshing the knowledge base of those who have been driving for several years.

Bangalore Traffic Woes, avoid ad hoc solutions please!

Bangalore, keeping in pace with other cities in the world, has grown exponentially over the past half a century. The Key question while planning traffic solutions for such a growing city obviously would be “how to account for possible future growth?” Bangalore has a very good example in the Kempe Gouda Towers. Kempe Gouda had in his wisdom estimated the boundaries of Bangalore and built the Towers known after him.

Does it make sense?

From recent Praja discussions and meetings with Mr Sood, it is clear that Police have only so much say - so many areas are beyond their jurisdiction.

Why would we have police officers visit Singapore? To get trained.... On what?

> We don't have our roads planned right - but it is for BBMP to worry about

> foot paths - BBMP

> public transport - BMTC
