Bus

movement inside the bmtc buses

i have invariably seen commuters in bangalore who do not observe any civilisation codes. 1.whether the so called "educated" or thugs ,soon after their entering the bus they stand near the foot board only impeding others boarding or getting down from the bus.even if the conductor shouts( please note in majority of buses he will not and if at all he shouts)they will never mind.

PIL - To Sort out the Transport Mess

[Note: Work in progress - Copied from an email exchange, needs to be merged with the the PIL draft itself]

Our basic complaint is -----

Competition without regulation, like this

BMTC and privatization

I see this every other day on my commute, and to many who back competition and liberalization in public transport as a possible solution, this picture represents the fear keeping them from being vocal supporters of the idea. On one side, you have a 3-4 year old nice big bus. Pushing it out of the stand though is a 15 year old vehicle which would be worth a lot less than the bribes it'd take to get operating licenses from RTO.

Anybody still believes BMTC can deliver?

The presence of buses at the flagging-off ceremony seems to have been symbolic, as was the schedule given by the depot and the confirmation by officials that the buses were in operation. And as of this morning, more than a week later, the opinionforming, feedback-providing public is yet to make its acquaintance with the mysterious Marco Polo.

Implementing bus priority on narrow roads - proposal submitted to Pune Municipal Corporation

Please find a significantly more detailed as well as an updated proposal for implementing bus priority on SB Road, Pune a 80 feet wide road not conducive to Bogota style BRTS with median lanes and median bus stops.

BMTC Routing

BMTC has x000 buses, and with those many buses, it runs y000 routes. The route to bus ratio comes to around xx, and here is how it compares with some other bus systems.

The Challenged Private Sector

Private bus operators at Kalasipalyam, who have been transporting commuters for about 60 years now, still await the day they will get a separate bus stand. There are about 250 private buses that ply daily between the City Market and nearby Hosur, Kolar, Magadi, Tumkur and Chikballapur.

Bus Priority Examples: Manchester Automatic Traffic Bollards

This is rather amusing but its a great example of ensuring bus priority - and though this stuff can be used on segregated bus lanes in Delhi and Pune, they may be best considered for implementing peripheral bus lanes with success.

BMTC - good things announced

While we continue to expect more from BMTC here on Praja, good things are being announced by the government. CM kicked off work for a TTMC at Kengeri, and while doing that, he announced (quoting TOI) a bus station in every locality and a depot every 5 km, in the next few years. Thats sweet, but sheltered bus stands with clear display of bus information would be sweeter.

Bangalore bus system

Bus transport system is synonymous with BMTC in Bangalore. Though BMTC claims to be the best city bus system in the country, and rightly so, many feel that it can do better, and play a significant role in decongesting the traffic conditions in city.
