  • Feeder bus service - at last

    BusPublic Transport

Feeder service has been introduced between the City Central station and KBS/Majestic. Excerpts from the article below (from DH Metro; link - http://www.deccanherald.com/content/91083/enjoying-free-ride.html):

  • Police ticketing BMTC

    EnforcementTraffic

A short report:  I saw a traffic policeman giving a challan to a BMTC bus that was parked awkwardly on the down ramp from Marathalli bridge.  Excellent start.  I want to see challans for improper parking at bus stops, illegal U-turns, ignoring lane discipline etc.

  • August Bus Day in IBN News!

    BusPublic Transport

Actually I had totally forgotten the August Bus Day untill this morning I received an email from my nephew who lives in Scranton, Pennsylvania, US.

    "...

  • Crushing bus door

    Bus

A 21-year-old man was almost crushed to death when the hydraulic doors of a BMTC bus closed in on him on Sunday evening. Prannoy David Rao hurt his shoulders and chest but what hurt more was the reaction of those around: The bus conductor yelled at him and some passengers guffawed at his plight instead of rescuing him.

  • Ads Volvo buses illegal; but, BMTC carries on unmindful

    Bus

Regional Transport Authority officials never had it so tough. While they have managed to stop all private and government vehicles from displaying advertisements, they've found the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) a tough nut to crack. They're armed with an Act of law, a high court ruling and a Road Safety Authority (RSA) decision which prohibits display of ads on vehicles as these could distract other drivers. However BMTC buses, especially the Volvos, continue to display huge ads. What's worse, government ads with large photographs of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and transport minister R Ashoka are on almost all buses plying towards IT corridor areas like Whitefield and Electronic City. Interestingly, BMTC managing director Syed Zameer Pasha says he's unaware of this blatant flouting of rules.

  • BMTC to add 4000 more new buses after Bus Day success

    BusPublic Transport

The transport department was planning to strengthen its existing fleet of 6,000 buses to cater to the increasing demand for public transport in the wake of initiatives like the Bus Day, transport minister R Ashoka said on Monday.

  • BMTC - 500k - 600k causing passenger inconvenience

    BusPublic Transport

500k and 600k are the only 2 volvo routes between Silk Board to Vijaynagar and there is a lot of passenger density in this route. As per the BMTC route info, there is a bus every 5 mins in the peak hour between 530 and 730.

  • BMTC - Extending the monopoly

    BusPublic Transport

Quoting myself from an earlier post "I predict the irrelevance of the auto in the transport scheme within the next 5 years."

Nanos may push autos out of B’lore

Looks like we dont have to wait 5 years for my prediction

  • BMTC and Corruption

Lot of posts and comments on bad practices around tickets, and possibility of organized corruption inside BMTC around Bus operations. Some say that pilferage levels are too high, though there is no real data to either show the level of pilferage, or compare with estimates from transportation companies.

  • Corruption and Technologies in BMTC - List of Questions

    BusPublic Transport

Extending the discussion on Pilferage by BMTC Conductors/Official and taking SBs suggestion for coming up with the list of questions for possible direct answers from BMTC or filing RTI with BMTC.

In any case, as a civil city and residents of Bengaluru, it is our duty to hold the powers responsible for all that good and bad happens in public institutions and corporations.

BMTC needs to be held responsible and answers should be demanded for all the relevant issues and questions.

Let us collate all the questions here. Pls feel free to list the questions via comments under two categories.

    1. Pilferage via in-bus corruption
    2. State of technology use in BMTC

REQUEST - Pls do not start discussions on Private vs Public. You may do so by starting a separate post on it.
