When the “who’s who” of the secretariat are preferring quarantine services of private nursing homes and corporate hospitals over government hospitals, it remains a complex question in common people’s mind, whether it is worthwhile to visit a government hospital at all.

Medical Education Minister Ramachandre Gowda has said that the government would direct the beleaguered Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to withdraw the closure notice slapped by it on nine government hospitals for lack of permanent effluent treatment plants (ETPs).

I stay in one of the oldest locality in Bangalore i.e Banashankari I stage, very near to Hanumanthnagar. Recently corporation introduced the system of collecting the Household garbage thru the street cleaning persons. Now they have the push-trolley with plastic bin's which they suppose to come near each house and collect the household garbage. These garbage need to be dumped to another van which collects the garbage from the whole area and take to designated place.

Whenever I am waiting to see my cardiologist, at his clinic in Indiranagar, there are invariably a couple of drug representatives who put in their cards with the receptionist for an appointment with the doctor. The doctor meets the reps only after he is through with the patients of course. When my doctor changed a drug which I was using for ages I was not comfortable.

MYSORE: Bangalore will not have any healthy people left in 15 years if the government fails to arrest soaring pollution levels in both urban and rural levels. The sole 50-bed burns ward in the state at Victoria Hospital is in a pathetic state. Broken window panes, improper ventilation, fading walls, broken bathroom doors and shortage of sufficient cubicles for the privacy of the patients, are the other ills dogging the ward. The hospital authorities blame the PWD for the sorry state of affairs.

Health care - systemic crisis?

Do you live in Bangalore? Were you or someone in your family hospitalized in recent times? Do you have an insurance cover? If the answers to all the above questions are 'yes', then there is a great chance that you (and/or insurance company) paid an inflated bill. Worse still, there is a chance the hospitalization was not required in the first place!
