Namma Mono - Where are you ?

BMRC said that it cannot handle Monorail along with Metro. After that there is no update by either BMRCL or state government about the staus such as appointment of a consultant, is it going to be operated on a BOOT or is Government going to build, is BMRCL going to handle this or not etc.. Lot of questions arising about Monorail of Bangalore. For a comprehensive solution for the struggling Bangalore traffic and people movement, parallel and swift execution of infrastructure projects is badly needed. Already delay in the project has resulted in increase of project costs due to increased land rates. BMRCL should acquire land on a war footing before it is too late that the project cost increases to an unaffordable value. Nobody knows why BMRCL is so slow in atleast acquiring land for the project. Samething has happened even on the Metro front with still lots of land acquisitions pending and many places still the alignment is still not yet decided. If BMRCL cannot handle Monorail on its own both due to unavailability of funds as well as manpower, it should call BOOT operators and work progressively and take quick actions - It is already too late and years have been spent just planning. When is Namma Mono Coming? I sent a mail to bmrc@dataone.in asking the status about Monorail. I will update if BMRCL replies my query.

mono

vasanth, it looks like executive decisions on mono has to be taken by UDD which is responsible for over all planning. BMRC is only implementing agency. atleast that is what i understood from BMRC's letter to naveen. check here. UDD website is here. agree with you, it is strange that the speed is so slow in acquiring land even. will they really finish by 2011?

The "Qualified" are not in place !

In addition, CRS & BRTS (as recommended in CTTP) is also in cold storage, since 'Announcements' about these projects is always the prerogative of the CM, whilst the PM himself has to fly down to 'Lay the Foundation'. This has been the way in our land & now, since there is'nt a CM, & Southern Railways /BMTC are not 'Qualified' to announce these or start them without these very important ceremonies & the accompanying flutter that is a necessity for such events, there has'nt been any news about them, I guess. Commuters have waited decades, so what's the problem in waiting some more for elections & a new government to be formed, & a 'Qualified' CM is in place, whenever that may be !

What is wrong with "Unqualified..??"

This reminds me of how NICE inaugurated one of their functions by the hands of a an "unqualified" villager/non-entity. These inauguration, foundation-stone, etc. have got to stop. What do they really achieve? TA/DA and sightseeing trips for the Ministers and their entourage? City Zen

pb ngr initiative

This monorail idea came from PB ngr and probably dies there! Who else would think of a mono rail route from kattariguppa to national college!? They went on record to create records for granting international tenders within 15 days..! Hope sense prevails!

Progress of Bangalore Metro Rail

Metro Rail Phase II To Have More Corridors
** First trial run of the Metro in September 2009.
** Metro to Devanahalli not feasible due to fewer stations
** Dismantling of buildings on the alignment will begin by Dec 15

The Comprehensive Traffic and Transportation Survey (CTTS) prepared by RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Services) has suggested extending ‘Namma Metro’ to Hebbal, Central Silk Board, Electronic City and Whitefield in phase two of the project.

Announcing this at a presentation on ‘Progress of Bangalore Metro Rail’ organised by the Institution of Engineers, Mr B S Sudhir Chandra, Director (Projects and Planning) Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said, the CTTS report submitted to the government has suggested extension of the project for it to be viable.

“Phase one from cricket stadium to Byappanhalli is not an end in itself. The second phase would include having a MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System) including mono-rail, BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) supporting the metro as a feeder on a PPP (Public-Private- Partnership) model as in other cities,” Mr Chandra said.

BMRCL has also increased the corridor from Yeshwantpur to Hesaraghatta Cross and from R V Road Terminus to Kanakapura Road Cross.

The first trial run of the Metro Rail will be in September 2009, with state-of-the-art stainless steel coaches (2.9 metre wide) capable of carrying 356 passengers, said Mr Chandra. “General Consultants will suggest on the best consortium to be selected that would manufacture the coaches. Bids from global firms have been received,” he added.

Extending the metro up to Devanahalli is not feasible due to fewer stations leading to increased fares. A dedicated link such as a high-speed rail is a better option, Mr Chandra explained.

Underground tunnels of the metro will have evacuation pathways which can be used as emergency get-away exit points. After disbursement of compensation and property acquisition, dismantling of buildings on the alignment will begin by December 15, Mr Chandra said.

Thinking again - Namma Mono Yelliddiya (Where are you)

In the news followup by media of Namma Metro between BYPL to MG Road, everyone has totally forgotten about various mono proposals that went, one by SCOMI, another survey by CTTP corridors linking Metro and a recent news about Majestic- Agara Mono.

Totally confused what decission IDD would take up on Mono.

Feeder monos as per CTTP report on Magadi Road, Kattriguppe Main Road etc  if it gets some work started before Namma Metro  Phase 1 fully becomes operational would be a good Project Planning and more beneficial for commuters.

Our BJp government is trying to solve its own problems, doing nothing on Metro front -  , but wants to take publicity causing visual pollution about is 'achievement' without doing anything.
