BMTC email update

Following are the latest updates from BMTC

On RTI: Per plan, first attempt would be to get as much information as possible from the BMTC via directly from the respective officials. BMTC has been contacted regarding the same and they will get back to us with right officials we need to contact.
 

Roadside Tree Care Standards (MD,US)

General Requirements. Unless the Forest Service grants an exception, treatment of roadside trees authorized by permit shall be performed according to the following standards:

(1) Branches to be removed shall be cut back to a live lateral branch at least 1/3 the diameter of the severed branch;

Doctor saves two 200+ yr old uprooted trees...

Cardiologist Dr Ramana Rao spent around a lakh to save two 200yr plus old peepal trees uprooted on Tumkur Road.

Killing our lakes - Varthur Lake as well?

No new post this, just a rehash of  year old "Eating up Varthur Lake". Inspired by Rithesh's recent note on Hebbal/Nagavara Lake, I wanted to remind us about possible encorachments on the area/stream between Varthur and Belandur lakes.

The idea of the meeting is to acquaint ourselves with the geography of commercial street, get a clear picture of what is possible and create a plan.

Killing our lakes - Hebbal/Nagavara Lake example

See the image below - it shows the Hebbala and Nagavara lakes. I am told by the locals that the area covered in the red boundary once formed an elaborate and huge lake system. The system first got divided by the Bellary road and the region right to the road subsequently dried out. This region was taken over by the UAS and they used it for rice/paddy crop experiments.

Meeting with Commercial Street (CSt) Merchants Association

The meeting with Mr. Shyam Melwani and Mr. Nazim Sait the President and Vice presidents of the association respectively, took place at their board room situated at the Dispensary Road.

Bangalore, and water - urgency?
