Why not have IVORY Museum in Bangalore, when Karnataka is known for Elephants Tonnes of ivory worth crores may soon be destroyed. The Karnataka forest department has sought the permission of the Union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) to set fire to the elephant tusks that have piled up in its custody over a period of 20 years after the international ban was imposed on sale of ivory to save the jumbos from poachers. It is believed that the Mysore depot has the largest elephant ivory stock in the country. “As elephant ivory is a non-tradable commodity following the world ban, we can’t hold an auction or take the risk of keeping the stock secure due to the limited manpower at our disposal. According to government of India guidelines the tusks can only be given as gifts to army regiments on their request or destroyed before they are misused,” explains Ajai Mishra, CCF and field director, Project Elephant. http://www.deccanchronicl... As IVORY is baned for Trading is good action. But why IVORY should be burnt when its very precious in the world. It should be preserved and showcased to public similar to Museum. As Bangalore is getting recognised as important city at international level and attracts tourists. It makes great sense to create Museum for IVORY mainly from Elephants. As already Mysore has so much stock, same should be converted into wondeful Museum. As responsible citizens, can we ask GoK & GoI to provide exclusive Museum for IVROY.

Already Bangalore has few Museums : Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum Cubbon Park,, Bangalore Museum Cubbon Park, Karnataka Folk Museum on Mysore road.

Ivory Museum will add attraction for Bangalore.  Also Ex-Indian Captian Anil Kumble is also incharge for Wild Life Conservation of Karnataka.

By burning the IVROY, what do  we achieve in the process????

This concept can be achieved and its only citizens should raise their level for this.

behind every tusk there is a dead or seriously injured elephant..this thought of buring is more to dissuade the poachers who go after these wonderful animals and also the buyers!
