We are probably going to see a severe water shortage from mid April onwards. The word going around is that this won't be a routine shortage that we are used to over last few years. May get pretty serious. I would be nice to have BWSSB publish a bulletin to dispel such fears, or be transpare about the forecast it is going to make about the shortage so that, if it gets that bad, people can be ready.

We are approaching elections, and being public about an upcoming water crunch may not help the ruling party. But it is in our interest to get to know about the upcoming shortage (if it is for real) and highlight it so that water management (not just distribution) gets the focus and prime placement in the work-in-progress manifestos.

I will request BWSSB MD for a meeting to share his views on water an how BWSSB is getting ready for April-May-June time.

cheers,

SB aka Pranav

All articles from March, sound pretty routine for this time of the year.

TOI:- will not use water for power generation. use for Bangalore instead.

"Around this time of the year, we should have had 150 tmcft, but we have only 50 tmcft. There has been a shortage of drinking water since February 26. To tackle this crisis, we decided to stop withdrawing water from reservoirs for power generation . Water cannot be lifted from the Sathyagala, Madhava Mantri barrage and Shiva dam on the river course," BWSSB minister S Suresh Kumar informed reporters here on Tuesday.

Hindu says - Dry days ahead. I would think seriously dry days ahead.

Official sources in the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) said that if Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. does not enhance the release of water from the Kabini and the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) to a minimum of 600 cusecs at SBR, the drinking water supply situation in the city could turn alarming.
