Commuter RailPublic Transport

Branching off from "Commuter-rail-will-it-ever-materialize" thread as it got too long. The IDD seems to be moving in the direction of surveying for CRS (item 3, pp. 2).

Pedestrianization success story

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

Interesting story about Amman's Master Plan...

www.nytimes.com/2010/02/24/world/middleeast/24amman.html

They seem to have implemented a pedestrianization project which has transformed the city. If only Bangalore's powers that be had such vision...

Deregulated State Railway Authority

KRC is the model to go if we need to resolve the local problems. If Delhi continue plan and execute we will definitely continue to have hundreds of  KR Puram/Whitefield like engineering disasters called flyovers.

Protest cum work review at the bridge work-site?

Infrastructure

Okay, so we have had 3-4 comments expressing interest to participate in a protest sort of event near the work site. If 15-20 people can commit to attendance, let us fix a date and do it.

Madiwala Bus Stop

Infrastructure

I saw 2 months back, Madiwala police station bus stop has been relocated to madiwala market with a better infrastructure. What I mean is there is a laybye for buses to stop , at least 3 buses at a time. It was also tarred, I guess at least with cost of 10 lakhs. It had also a footpath-cum-waiting place for passengers.

Local shuttle ideas for next Bus Day (March 4)

BusPublic Transport

Now that BMTC and Transport Minister have liked the concept, let us make suggestions to make the most, and more immportant. meaningful use of the idea-pad cum marketing event called Bus Day.

For starters, I think we should try do not more than 2 corridors on each Bus day. 5 is a lot to cover and do, there is no point being wide but thin in coverage.

4 March Bus Day - New corridors announced

BusPublic Transport

Got this email from BMTC late last week. Most significant part in there is

  1. Confirmation that next Bus Day is on for March 4th
  2. 5 corridors for next Bus Day: Old Madras Road (new), Bannerghatta Road (new), Old Airport Road, Hosur Road, Sarjapura Road (new).

New Corridor means extra buses, more cops at key points on the corridors to manage bus traffic, and hopefuly, some local shuttles around these corridors on the day

Here is the note received from BMTC:

New line - Tumkur to Hindupur

Commuter RailPublic Transport

I want to suggest a Railway link between Tumkur with Hindupur, both falling in the south westren Rail zone. This will help everyone in west & southwest regions to reach Puttaparthy which is  a place to go for many people.

How to cross Hosur Road below Elevated Expressway

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

There is no easy way for people on the ground to cross express way (Hosur Road) by bus and cycle. One needs to walk or traverse a long distance to cross the elevated expressway as there is no footpath. For example if you got to building say across pier 26, u need to cycle or walk to pier 51 and come all the way back.

What can we do about this? are the roads not for common people?
