Belgaum is going to have a task force for beautification and cleanliness, I would appeal you all to put in your valuable comments information or even pictures which would help the government bodies to look up on and do the needful, this task force should be people driven, should be propagated to collages youth forums.

Crack down on vandals

The Maharashtra government has proposed a jail term of up to five years, or a big fine, or both for those who vandalize public property during protests or due to a personal grudge.

Road Dust In Bangalore

During late 80's and early 90's, I used to love and look forward to the mornings-after-rainy-nights in Bangalore. Pollution was a problem then too. But such mornings with crisp, clean, clear air was something else.

New tracking page for ABIDE and Karnataka 2020

Talking of Abide and Karnataka 2020 task forces, some like the concepts (eminent personalities helping with their ideas), some hate it (unconstitutional, without accountability). Regardless, the two task forces are here to stay, and look to be set for some serious business.

Looking for inputs for a presentation on Hubli Dharwad CDP - ASAP

I have been asked to make a presentation which would be presented to high profile group meeting in Hubli (ABIDE like). The aim at the end of the day is to get improvements incorporated in the CDP (comprehensive development plan), which is under revision.

Now, a Vision Group

Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa will head the Vision Group on Karnataka 2020, a panel constituted for finalizing the state’s vision document and its subsequent implementation.

Are we hopeless? A random thought....

We visited Wonderla this weekend. I should say a pretty well planned and well maintained place. Few incidences here to make a point.

Passport in three days

Citizens can now get a new passport within three days of police verification, or on the same day under "tatkal" scheme, as the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday signed an agreement with Tata Consultancy Services.

Solar rickshaws

Solar-powered rickshaws called green rickshaws were introduced in Chandni Chowk here on Thursday as part of a pilot project. Each of these rickshaws costs about Rs.17,000 and the idea is to have them in place of the man-pulled rickshaws.

So, will BMTC do one of this?

I was waiting for one of these two to happen. What if:

  1. BMTC bids to operate buses in liberalized UP transport sector?
  2. BMRC (Bangalore Metro) orders its own fleet of buses to make sure it gets good numbers to reliably reach all their stations?

Satellite Bus Stands - Will they reduce traffic?

Most of the traffic planners say to start the satellite bus stands to reduce the city traffic. Recently KSRTC Minister Mr.Ashok announced many satellite bus stands and even in Mysore where the traffic is quite normal in the range of 300+ crores. Will they really serve the purpose?

Urban development, costs of Metro and Indian budget - a perspective

In my arguments with regards BRTS, I often bring up the key but neglected and forgotten matter of cost-effectiveness of a given solution to our transportation problems. It should come as no surprise to most who are acquainted with my stance that I hate the idea of spending money without a clear crsip rationale and long term plan.  And the Metro falls under this category as far as I am concerned.

MMRDA officials have in the past replied in agreement to my suggestion that Mumbai Metro will not solve its problems at all. Given the fact that 10000 daily migrants to Mumbai will swell it to a city 30 million plus by 2030, it will be fair to say that whether Mumbai gets sea links or Metro rail, people will still be travelling in quasi or near stampede like situations and roads will always remain clogged.

Meeting with Mr Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Convener ABIDe

We had requested for a Praja meeting with Mr Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Rajya Sabha MP, and convener of ABIDe. He was kind enough to respond and indicate his willingness to meet. The date isn't set yet, we'd try get his time this weekend or next. Worst case, we have suggested weekday late evening time slot.
