[See this post for details of Namma Auto initiative. Here are some updates on it.]

Benniganahalli bridge work underway

Finally!! http://timesofindia.india...

Any idea if the pedestrians are taken care of?? If not, we need to immediately get their attention on this!

Car Fuel Subsidised

One of my danish colleagues had remarked that our country, instead of helping the poor & taxing the rich, was subsidising the car users with lower fuel costs since all oil imports were being sold at lesser price than what they actually cost in India.

Miscarriage of justice

Whereas the magistrate should have been pulling up the police for not charging the perpetrators of the violent incidents targeted at women under more stringent sections, it is totally shocking that he has instead chosen to direct the police to register an FIR against Ms Renuka Chowdhry, and all just for stating that "Mangalore has been Talibanised".

"Only God can save Bangalore's pedestrians"

So said Dr. Subramanya sometime in Dec 2007.  It seems that pavements are optional in Bangalore.  BBMP can spend 100s of crores on tarring roads, acquiring land for useless road widening (check out the stretch just after Domlur leading to Command Hospital), building flyovers with signals on top of them, etc etc, but has little money to spend on building and maintaining pavements.

BBMP - More magic boxes coming!?

View from the Palace cross roadWhat exactly would be "precast RCC box segments of size 6m x 4.5m x 1m". Magic box, isn't it? Saw some tenders from BBMP calling for work to prepare "vehicular underpass" using these precast RCC segments at Mysore Road Deviation Junction. See the BBMP Ad for yourself:

The hardships of changing a bus

Vasanth's Big10/ORR buses comment, and seeing a bus stop near silkboard junction move farther from the flyover prompts me to repeat a point made earlier.

'I vote I count' - Bengaluru Lok Sabha elections

[Quick link to the election issue survey, do fill it and have your say.]

The attack on Mumbai on 26/11 was meant to undermine India. Instead it has lead to a new political awakening. As the initial shock and anger against our politicians died down we realized that our disengagement from the political process was part of the problem. And the solution lay in getting engaged; else we only have ourselves to blame.  Politics is too important to be left solely to politicians!

Old promises in new Karnataka budget

B.S. YEDDYURAPPA presented the budget for 2009-10 today at Bangalore.

Hi-Speed Rail - A ReThink

Hi Folks,

It does seem a hugely expensive exercise that would cater to perhaps, a few thousand each day. At first look, it does seem a questionable investment decision with dubious rationale - is this really so ?

A few points that may be pondered over ---

Bangalore CBD HoHo Shuttles - Route Map

At the meeting of the Bangalore Chamber Infrastructure Committee, we had the presence of Dr. Ashwin Mahesh and Mr. R.K. Misra of ABIDe. The Ho-Ho shuttle bus was discussed and also the Big10 services. I will request Pranav to add more to the contents of the meeting.

Traffic Flow Change required in Malleswaram area

I sent the following letter to several people - Sood, Rajiv Chandrashekhar, Subramanian etc. in the hope of getting some feedback. I just thought I would send it to Praja as well since this topic is being discussed and would appreciate any feedback.

BMLTA - Map Browser

Been a while since we talked BMLTA. Browsing their website, found this beta of Map Browser added in Oct '08. Wonder how we didn't notice for so long...

Commendable goal. Quoting their website:

The Map Browser aims to present spatial information on:

House Commitee Magic at BIAL!

Happen to visit BIAL site out of curiosity to find anything that might be of interest. The current website still doesn't excite me, which many of have you written about it. But its one menu "Testimonials" attracted my attention.

Parking & traffic congestion

There is an urgent need for a paradigm shift on two counts. Firstly, shift focus from road widening to junction improvement. Secondly, shift focus to create parking infrastructure.

Pravin Sood, additional commissioner of police (traffic & security)
