Sewerage system for suburban areas

Don't see any mention in mainstream papers yet, but last week I noted four big BWSSB tenders (see below) for work to provide sewerage system for suburban areas (CMCs) of Byatarayanpura, Dasarahalli and Mahadevpura. Its about Rs 180 crore worth of work, and I really wish some of us took the same interest we do in detailing Rs 20-30 crore worth flyover projects. What exactly is BWSSB doing here, who are the consultants, who is reviewing their plans and appreciating/criticizing their good/bad work?

Bus Routes and Fares

I've recently started using the bus - I must admit it took my car being in the shop for a few days to trigger it - and have found it to be very easy and comfortable. But I'm curious about the fare system. The first couple of times I found a `Suvarna' bus and the fare, from Mathikere to Yelahanka, was Rs. 11. The bus was virtually empty, comfortable and smooth.

Face up to the goons!

This shocking, yet at some level encouraging, tale is reported by a friend who knows Sugata Chatterjee the rapporteur of this shocker...Boohoo to ramsene and ... their ilk. Down with obscuranist politicians and moral police, 3 cheers to sugata Chatterjee for standing up.

Dear Friends,

ABIDE Plans - More buses to the BMTC Fleet?

If we look at the Bengaluru Plan2020 and news that has appeared in the media suggests that for decongestion on B'lore roads, more buses are required and hence plan to add more buses to the BMTC fleet. Here is the scoop from DH

A case of wrong fining

My wife received a challan by post a few days back for "holding/ using a mobile phone while driving" asking to pay up Rs 100/- fine as per Sec 230(A) KMV rules R/W 177 IMV. The incident was supposed to have happened at 9.40 hrs on Monday, 19th Jan, at Rajajinagara Entrance Circle.

VIP Convoy Privilege

Last evening a convoy driving into the city had traffic stopped in both directions for at least 15 minutes on Mysore Road. I was waiting near the end of the flyover, headed out of the city and was wondering what in the world was the reason, until I saw some 5 vehicles of a convoy zoom into the city on the other side of the road.

Lokayukta's reply to our first RTI

Some of us here wanted to know more about the Lokayukta office than what the newspapers tell us. Once the excitement of raids and big names get over, we rarely get to know the closure of those cases. So why not ask Lokayukta on a regular basis? Here is what we asked via an RTI application to start with:

Updates on BETL, please

Can any one at Praja help get status of BETL project on Hosur Road? Points for discussion: a) estimated completion date b) current status of the project (pending issues) c) any change in alignments undertaken by consessionaire / NHAI - due to external pressures / any-other (eg: Maytas) d) progress of toll-collection centers & est.

Better toll collection method - BMIC Peripheral Road

Here is a suggestion for Mr.Kheny on toll collection on the BMIC Peripheral Road.  His current method can be improved quite a bit to ensure that the main expressway has free moving traffic (this is an access controlled Expressway and ought to be signal free).
