We all knew BBMP is the cash cow for all politicians and its contractors along with the so called engineers. The engineers are really good at engineering ways to let fake bills and fake payments to be done without works being carried out..
The latest scam is about footpath works..this has been going on for years now..especially so in south bangalore in areas of Basavanagudi, Hanumanthanagar, Girinagar etc,,
According to sources in the Palike, the Govindarajnagar executive engineer secured approval of the Palike authorities to lay stone slabs on the side drains in his division.
The work on improvement and development of footpaths and drains was proposed to be carried out at four locations - 80 Feet Road, up to Bangalore University (estimated cost: Rs 72 lakh), NGEF Main Road (Rs 98 lakh), Jyothi Nagar Main Road (Rs 61.6 lakh) and Jyothi Nagar Main Road to Jnanabharathi Main Road (Rs 68.4 lakh). The engineer cited damaged slabs as the reason for the project, though the slabs laid at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore three years ago were in a good condition.
The work began much to the chagrin of local residents who compelled the contractor to stop the work. The residents complained to BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah, who ordered an inquiry by the Technical Vigilance Cell under the Commissioner (TVCC).

a much bigger scam
This time its 500+ crores
Job codes were introduced to check duplication of work and easy location of the work site. Based on the job codes provided by the CFO, the BBMP authorities ordered an inquiry, which revealed that only 786 works were taken up. Thus, 1,970 works worth Rs 523 crore did not begin at all.

good footpath being relaid!
Girinagar is now undergoing another exercise where a neatly laid concrete footpath done few months ago is being dug out and relaid with antiskid tiles..
These footpaths are rarely used and mostly has cars and other vehicles parked on it..not sure who will use the new footpath!
The authorities should stop such wasteful expenditures immediately!
