Two long up and down ramps will be made on the Hebbal Main Road. Two box underpasses will allow vehicles to move from Banglore Palace towards Malleswaram, and those coming from Cauvery junction to take a right turn towards Malleshwaram. As the ramps will need embankments, it is estimated that this project will take more time. The cost is estimated at Rs 2.5 crore and will take approximately 45 days to complete. | ||

Good job.. great pictures. I totally agree with your point abt Movie / Political posters and the width of the underpass, why can't they make bigger underpass.

Is something wrong with the BBMP? They are now trying to organize poster sticking culture and make money out of it. What a bunch of jokers... Do we have visionaries?? or Vision awrys.. Is this inside the underpass?? thanks for the pic Praveen - but this gesture of BBMP is very disappointing and annoying.

I have gonethrough the opinion of experts expressed in the series - Concrete Solution? There were a lot of issues that really impressed me. By and large experts have given full marks for the technology. However some of them have criticised it referring to the underpass constructed at the Cauvery junction. But they are not against adopting the technology.
I agree the underpass at the Cauvery junction should have been wider. There is always a scope to learn from the past experience. We have increased the width of the underpass at BDA junction to 5.5 m. Similarly, we are making all efforts to improve the technology as we move on to other junctions.
I never said precast technology is the only solution to solve the traffic problems of Bangalore City. All roads in the city are not wide or good enough to accommodate the increasing vehicular population. Palike looked at precast technology as one of the solutions. The long term measure to solve the problem is having more stilt roads,
roads on storm water drains. I have been saying that underpasses using precast technology is a short-term measure. It is cost-effective and time saving. Many experts who contributed to the series agreed with this.
Even though the underpass at the Cauvery junction was completed in 33 days it is a record. The underpass at the Cauvery junction received lot of criticism, yet lakhs of vehicles have passed through it since it was opened and fuel worth crores has been saved. I don’t say what Palike has done is perfect. It is unrealistic to expect perfection at the first step itself. It is just an initiative.

Y Intersection on the Bellary Road
The Bellary road encounters a Y intersection near the Jakkur air base. One wing of 'Y' continues towards Devanahalli and the other goes towards yelahanka.
The traffic moving from Jakkur towards this junction do not pose any problem. They move smoothly towards either Yelahanka or Devanahalli.
The concern is about the traffic moving from Yelahanka onto the Bellary road and towards the city.
There are always a couple of traffic policemen monitoring this junction and stopping the traffic on the Bellary road to allow the traffic from Yelahanka to move onto the Bellary road. This, of course, seems to be a temporary solution as the BBMP is planning to provide a signal-free road to BIAL.
So, an under-pass at this junction seems to be inevitable!
Are there any plans already to have an under-pass at this junction?

Private Partnership is the Mantra for Bengaluru
I think one of the best designed flyovers in India is the Mysore road flyover. L&T executed it and though it is not the most used flyover in Bangalore its design and ease of use and aesthetics are to be lauded here.. GoK had issues with L&T then on financing the project and it took a lot of time to execute it.
In todays scenario I am sure they are one great company to handover these projects like underpasses or flyovers so that we have something thats worldclass and works for our city.

Has this underpass made any progress in the midst of Elections and yet another postponement BIAL start date?
It seems we also have forgotten about underpasses?
