Praja Suddi - Issue 7

The unflagging enthusiasm shown by the Namma Railu team, even in the face of the rather lackadaisical approach of the state government, busy as they are with their fight for survival, was the most notable feature of the month of January. They have left no stops un-pulled in the pursuit of their goal, the latest Netas they have tapped being none less than the Honourable Sri Rahman Khan, Dy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and Tumkur MP G S Basavaraj. There are strong indications of Namma Railu finding a mention in the upcoming Railway Budget. Pray for it.

A workshop on Urban Mobility organised by CiSTUP (IISc), along with PRAJA, on the 10th Jan, was an equally notable event in the month, the focus this time being on 'Bus Priority Systems' and 'Cycling & Pedestrian Priority Policies'.

The expertise amongst Prajagalu for traffic planning was again on display with another suggestion for traffic flow at the busy (and increasingly messy) Silkboard junction. But, even with all the expertise, not many have been able to figure out what is proposed at Oaklipuram. The non-provision of properly planned bus stops before and after fly-overs, and consequent hardships and hazards faced by commuters, came in for some sharp criticism from Prajagale.

Kochi has chosen to emulate the example set by Namma Bengaluru, and observed its own Bus Day, championed by the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), based there. Hopefully, the trend should catch on in other cities too in the near future.

While Bangalore Mirror (a TOI tabloid) invited citizens to select the "7 Wonders of Bangalore", Prajagalu decided to nominate "7 Horrors of Bengalore" (or more).
