where's the level playing field?

BSNL has prime real estate, access to the best spectrum, has been guaranteed priority spectrum for 3G, and by virtue of its state-owned status, will always have a line of sight into spectrum.

Apparently, you can never possibly have a level playing field as long as government player is also in the picture. Is that a satisfactory scenario?

Aero India 2009 still from Yel?

http://pib.nic.in/release/release.asp?relid=41195

Very interesting to see that Yel AFB will be hosting the 2009 Aero India again. I was of the opinion that BIA had spelled doom for this primier show..was wondering if air show would be a nightmare for the BIA ATC..

So many sorties to manage..IAF plans to include vintage flying in this show..wonder if BIA wont raise any objections!

Parking for profit, and how we can help

Location, Whitefield. First photo may tell you nothing, whats wrong with parking on the edge of the road anyway. Second one tells you why I clicked it. Blatant, isn't it?

We see examples like this everyday. Some of us fools waste time taking pictures. And the rarest of rare, nut cases, take the trouble of sending these to Traffic Police to feel like doing 'their bit'.

Out of sight, out of mind?

If the middle class lives in secure communities, then how will things improve? If the movers and shakers opt out of sharing the problem that everyone else is facing, how will things improve? When the middle class evacuates a sphere, like education, or healthcare, doesn’t it go to the dogs?

These are a set of questions asked in an outlook article on gated communities. I have attached RK Mishra's take on these questions. But, beyond his opinions, what do you think? This by itself is a loaded question, but let us extend this beyond gated communities and ask similar questions about SEZ's and satellite towns. If industry and enterprise go to exclusive enclaves, will not the city go to the dogs?
Or is this all so much more theory? Or is it? To be part of the solution, do you have to be part of the problem?

First Information Report

Today's Times of India carried the following article of interest. It is not uncommon for public to face rude police behavior. Not registering an FIR is simply unjust. This is a very irritating matter and has to be tackled.

Cops understand only crack of whip, says Supreme Court, 9 Aug 2008, 0001 hrs IST, Dhananjay Mahapatra,TNN (Link: Register FIR or face jail: SC to cops):

2000 acres for IT park, what about other things?

I am terribly sorry. But I have an issue with developments like these - new IT park on 2000 acres around the city (source: DH). No, I am not going to speak the beaten line of farmland acquisition. I am not anti development at all, but I speak for us, the urban dwellers who lead close to miserable lives in this city today.

The government is setting up a sprawling IT park on 2,000 acres around the City to create the much-needed space for IT firms to expand their activities.

Wonderful news, and the plans look good. But lets do some maths now.

BMTC and Rs 750 crores

BMTC has postponed its Rs 750 crore IPO for the time being due to volatile market conditions. But its never too late to look at their plans. BMTC had submitted a Rs 3000 crore plan tothe center under JNNURM to "modernize and expand its network to meet the public transport demands of a growing city.". The plan is (source: Livemint) "to raise money from the public to add luxury buses on newer routes".
