CRS / Local train for Bangalore Vs State Govt & SWR attitude

This with reference to our Shri K.H. Muniyappa ( Minister of State for Railways  )  blaming State Govt for not starting  Local Trains within Bangalore city.  How is it that he can not speak to CM of Karnataka when CM himself is pursuing so many projects for Rail on cost sharing basis. Our Shri K.H.

UIDAI Introducer challenge

UID Challenge

The UIDAI contemplates certain challenging situations that it might face in the implementation of the project to the public. This is the first in that series. The UIDAI is going to face many challenging situations and we would like to invite solutions from the public for these challenges.

The present challenge is related to the "Introducer System" which has been detailed out in the Demographic Data Standards and verification procedure Committee report in the Committees tab of the website. The problem is stated below. Probable reactions/solutions are solicited from the public to webadminuidai@nic.in.

UID Introducer Problem

Unique ID Authority of India has been mandated to give Unique IDs to the residents of this country. The way a person gets his/her ID will broadly work as follows:

Commuter rail for Bengaluru - state not interested?

First up, happy new year 2010 to all. I thought I should pick out one important piece from Sanjayv's summary post on Railway minister's recent announcements for our state.

Exemplary deed @ Kollegal

Nothing could have made a better Christmas gift from Santa for jumbos! A crucial corridor used by more than a thousand elephants in Kollegal was purchased by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and transferred to the state government on Thursday.

Updates from the Railway Minister

There was an article in The Hindu today citing an announcement by Shri K. H. Muniyappa, MoS Railways- see link here.

Gammon and the Metro - is there a safety concern?

After the recent bridge collapse in Rajasthan on the E-W corridor involving Gammon, am beginning to wonder about who would conduct a proper audit of the company's practices?  Since Bangalore Metro has offloaded a portion of the work to Gammon, this is particularly worrying for us. There are three major accidents that have been reported in the national press.

Why Tata still doesn’t get it?

Ratan Tata had this to say on the Singur debacle: “More often than not, conflicts related to land are promoted by individuals who do not belong to that area, but who have other political motives.” Quite so, but this, interestingly enough, was the exact position taken by British planters to stop Mahatma Gandhi’s first mass movement in India, the anti-indigo cultivation

Refreshing evolution

For the faint-hearted, young men hitting their backs with a bunch of knives, tied together with a rope, has always been a visual torture if they ever witnessed one. But that has been always a practice for Muslims during Muharram.

The international effluent trade

Is it so easy to dump harmful chemicals in our country especially in our city of Bangalore? About 40 Barrels of unknown chemical were dumped at vacant railway yard near the slums of Okalipuram supposedly on Monday night. We seem to be totally unaware and un prepared for such exigencies.

Bumpy roads of Bangalore - Road Humps the back breakers not speed breakers.

Maybe this has been discussed earlier.

I am appalled by the state of Bangalore roads of late. Day by day there are more road humps added to the streets without any thought on the inconvenience it causes to the riders/drivers.

Kodigehalli Level Crossing - Politics First, citizens later

Strange are our public representatives and more strange are their political ways. In every act of their's is motivated first by their politics, party and their personal interests.

One upon a time, before computers in Bangalore

Bangalore scene before computers.........(This was published earlier in Churumuri on August 14, 2009 as ‘Once upon a time before computers in Bangalore’ )

Reconstitution of land and property - new alternative to TDR

In what is now loud thinking, BDA, BBMP and urban-affairs officials are proposing a new scheme in town planning whereby there will be ‘reconstitution of land and property’ instead of acquisition.
