This isn't to scare anyone. Website will stay operational, with minimal impact, but just wanted to announce that we plan to work on some long pending tech issues (navigation, projects, gyan etc) during December. Can't promise how much we will manage to complete, but all those who have given feedback on site issues to make it better aligned with Praja community's goals, we will try reach out to you for help. Or if you want to help share some work as well, drop a line to tech [at] praja.in with your interest and skills. Yes, we are a php/mysql shop.

Since posts with "no city" (non local) have pretty low visibility. bumping this up via a comment.

We need a separate announcement system for such posts.

Anyway. Just to repeat - volunteers with php/mysql or simply Drupal skills are welcome. We need all the help.

Lots of things needed, here is a list based on past and recent suggestions from various members:

  • A way for any group (NGO, society, rwa) etc to create and manage campaigns like Loksatta's Lokayukta one on right now
  • A way for designated "nook managers" to create gyan out of discussions (like what 'n' and few more want)
  • More kannada friendly features (translate all menus, help texts, a separate section for kannada posts, may be use google translate if it supports kannada)
  • Separate sections on the site for "light discussions", "heavy discussions", projects and campaigns, and perhaps gyan.
  • A way to let members choose what they want to read on the frontpage - their favorite member's posts, or posts only on selected topics (like Suhas suggested)
  • An almost facebook like way to make 'friends'
  • Pincode for all users, and then a way to find all Praja members who are in the same local area as me
  • Easy way to share maps and images during discussions
  • More ways to share posts and comments to friends on facebook Twitter etc
  • Easy way to find good posts on a given or popular topics
  • Better way for me to present myself on my Praja member profile page
  • etc etc

And, may be, provision for online ads to make some money to pay for hosting and few engineer's time to make this site even better :)
