I was today at the Public Bicycle Sharing Project @ B'lore University- Community Workshop - Apr-30th-2011- Saturday at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Central College, Bangalore..this was conducted by RACF and was attended by many important personalities such as the VC of BU, Transport Commissioner and others
Dr Prabhudeva, the VC of BU was very much interested in then subject of bike sharing happening at the BU campus..and offered all support incluiging help in the setup of the rental facility..
Murali also introduced the new bike rental solution built on the web using cloud concepts. It is very similar to the smart cards planned for Blr Metro..the cards are recharged over the internet and as they are presented at the bike station the bike is shared..
This solution is planned as freeware and can be used and reused easily...wherever bike rental needs to be setup...
KT Nagaraj from BBMP also spoke at the ocassion and mentioned that the Jayanagar pilot project costing around 3.5 crores has been now cleared by the council and the tenders will be called for soon..
There was a mention in press earlier that the Bike track plan for BU by BBMP involved tree cutting and was recently rejected by the VC..this plan is now being re-presented with no tree cutting and having bike lanes across tree lines..hence sparing the trees..
So if everything goes as planned..the idea is to have a rental scheme in place by June 5th which is the World Environment Day!
Wishing the best for the project!
