Update @ 2115 hrs;-
Welcome aboard praja folk, am blogging live from BIAL :-) Left home
around 6:08 PM reached BIAL by 6:55 pm despite the rain and some road
work going on, not bad at all, the last time i could do this distance
in 45 min on a dry day. (was driving a maruti van max speed 70 kmph for
10 min)
On reaching here i saw the place filled with cops all over, sniffer
dogs et al.
The airport looks nice when its litup. smiling faces all over, i got to
speek to some airline staff who feel this is a good thing that happened
to Bengaluru.
Including the press most of us are stuck at the arrival counter no
access to the departure side or the tarmac, -- thanks CISF.
As am typing this i hear the announcement about the UDF payment. (in
kannada / engilish / hindi)
the first flight is supposed to land around 2145 hrs its an AI IC 609
flight from mumbai A 320 flight
( it was supposed to be a jetair flight but i guess lots of things
change we live in interesting times)
More updates as they happen.
Update @ 22:40 hrs: the first flight has landed. Lots of
crowding around for taking pictures, and connectivity (I mean wifi) is
troublesome, so pictures will follow later.
Update @ 00:45 hrs: Got a chance to talk to Mr Brunner an hour ago. Ended up making him uncomfortable by asking his opinion on RTI applicability on BIAL. Anyway. Right now, we are all still waiting for the first flight to depart. Running late I guess. No pictures yet, but BIAL will hand lots of pictures of first departure before I leave. So check back in the morning.
Update @ 03:45 hrs:
There was a small press conference and the crew that was going to take
off to Singapore were on stage, all elated and the media were all
flashes and clicks :-)Was waiting for an announcement that the AI
flight to singapore would take off but i guess the coffee and chit-chat
i had missed the announcement.

Just I was on my way to Friday Prayers, was wishing for some body to give us the live updates. Here you are.

Yogi updates ...
We didn't really intend Praja to be a "journalistic" site. But if we can get 5 more photoyogis .. well, well. may be we can.
Yogi just called in to report that the first flight has landed. Lots of crowding around for taking pictures, and connectivity is troublesome right now (can't connect to wifi). So we should expect pictures only after he is back home.
And last, Yogi said that he is loving rubbing shoulders with the press there. And good # of them know Praja :)
P'Yogi - Great Work !

I got home from work here in London and dashed to get onto Praja, Deccan Herald, Rediff, etc sites for the latest on the Bengaluru airport opening. Praja had it first! My wife thought I was crazy to try and get this news before I did anything else.., but than she does not know there exists Yogi..!
You are the man Yogi! Thanks a bunch for the report! Onward for more progress.., BMIC, EC Elevated Expressway, a hundred well designed Magic Underpasses and most important - the Metro next..!

Thanks for the pics. Please do get some pics during the day- of the entire terminal building- would be good if the pics were taken step by step in each of the 2 routes 1)departure and 2) arrival, with all the shopping areas, amenities available to the passenger. Thanks in advance.
Dhanyavaadagalu!
What more can I say - Its a great feat for Us Bangaloreans and I am so proud of it. Thanks a ton Mr Yogi :) you have done us proud on praja - I am sitting half way around the world and have been on Praja for the whole day... this was what I was waiting for.
Awesome !
soooper yogi
nice pics Praveen
Request to Photoyogi
Thanks for the pics PhotoYogi. Please could you get some pics during the day- of the entire inside of the terminal building.
Would be good if the Day pics were taken step by step (the same way a passenger would progress) in each of the 2 routes 1)departure and 2) arrival, with all the shopping areas, amenities etc available to the passenger(as in the Ground and First floor plans released by BIAL- links below). Such a sequenced photoset would be very meaningful and will give a comprehensive idea about the airport. It would be of immense help if you could do this sometime - at your convenience. Thanks in advance.

Nice pics, thanks!
Sorry Yogi. Slept at 2, was tired. But thanks to the global reach of Praja, TS was around to help you.
Nice pics! Its like you made us feel we were right there for the opening.
Man, I am thinking that if "Praja" can realy get together, we can perhaps take on media as well. Seriously!
Those who are wondering how Yogi got to be there, BIAL had given "Praja" one 'press pass', and given that Yogi has been our 'journalistic' light for quite sometime here, he deserved to go.
So anyway, wohoo! First major infrastructure upgrade for Bangalore in 15-20 years, isn't it! We know its not perfect, could have been better etc. But its a positive change. Never know how this thing will alter Bangalore's landscape. For a sample, we all saw how Bangalore got 3-4 underpasses (magic box) done in 5 months time. Compare that to years that regular flyovers have taken. Besides pressure on connectivity front, what else would BIAL do? Who knows, may be a new big job center North of Bangalore that would ride on proximity to the airport, as well as upcoming connectivity updates to that region.
We will keep watching, and keep the pressure up.
Bangalore Landscape- Silkboard
Lots of businesses that were supposed to set up shop in Bangalore had been going to Thailand etc for some years now due to the lack of a good airport and bad infrastructure. With the airport in place things will change appreciably anyway, and with better roads, rail and other infrastructure Bangalore will become very attractive and its landscape will change dramatically.
Nowdays it is- 'have the iinfrastructure and everything else will fall in place'.
Hopefully BIAL's precence will spurn many more developments in industry and infrastructure.
Reg Day pics
Hi mailabode, Now with the CISF taken over and this structure, and it being red hot target of attention of sorts, I am not sure if more interior pictures is possible. lets hope more travellers take photos and put them up online and we can compair.
Honestly, the Praja visit to BIAL early march we had good access across the whole place (those pics are also online) that visit was super! as compared to now that the security measures are inplace.

Good updates
Praja did have updates earlier than any other site. Thanks to the resident praja journalist Photoyogi.
While the idea of giving the regular newspapers a run for their money does sound good. I think Praja is doing fine in its own niche as a blog driven community, focussing on civic issues. These live blogs are a good way of using technology to cover events that relate to the niche but suggest not to deviate into something different. Newspapers and print media have a wider scope.
Thanks Praja!
I would like to add here, yesterday till bout 2 PM i was not sure i was on the list of people who would be allowed in. guess why?? I was told CISF had halfed the number of passes to be issued and even large media houses were going to be given limited passes, now they would care less to some internet based community right?!
Nevertheless I think the praja group has been recognised as a bunch of guys who are balanced and we have members who are for/against on most of the issues and are willing to thrash it out with reasons in democratic ways.
We have also proved that we do mean business when it comes to

Hi Praveen aka
Hi Praveen aka Photoyogi,
Great work and amazing dedication!! Just saw a slideshow on your flickr site, must saw the photos were amazing and quite comprehensive, covering most front-end aspects of the airport. Was feeling a bit emotional too, looking at the smiling faces all around the airport.
17 years in the making, whew!! Now its upto us to ensure that the airport delivers bang for the buck, time and sweat spent by so many people.
P'Yogi - Living Up to His Name !
Hi All,
P'Yogi - I am really proud that we have you in the Praja community. You have done a remarkable job by bringing these pictures to us. An amazing job, indeed !
Congratulations, Yogi !!
I think you need a well deserved rest now, so I am not one that will ask for more pictures now.
Thanks from Japan...
Photoyogi,
I cant express how thrilled we all are to see the photos and updates!
I knew Praja would have it before anyone, thanks!
Hope I can join you soon in Bangalore for some photo journalism for our beloved praja.

Blackout by conventional media
A near total blackout in covering the BIA opening by conventional electronic media(Television) and even some of the national press. Wonder what the reason is for the stepmotherly treatment.
A lesson learned: Media no more has a monopoly- blogs and internet are changing the information landscape(its a worldwide phenomenon).
A few different pics from rediff:

Devesh - Text on Pictures
Devesh,
In addition to what TS has recommended ----
Paint can also be used to put text on pictures with the option to leave background transparent.
However, I had used MGI Photosuite, but this is not freely available. It comes only with purchase of sony videocam or digicam.
How to contact other praja members using this website
Offtopic, but to Devesh sir's comment about contacting other member - Any member can contact another member by using the contact form. Here is how.
If you face any problem in contacting another Praja member using the method described above, let us know (on this feedback thread)
Guys, does anybody have the
BIAL Busy Picture
Hi Bialterminal,
The picture was taken on sunday, the 25th at about 5PM - almost peak hour, with a large no. of visitors to the new airport. However, the view is from a distance & does not highlight the "busy" aspect clearly.
If you see the other pictures in the same photo stream, you will see a lot more people. Try this link :

Thanks Naveen. Any way of
Thanks Naveen. Any way of telling if the majority of people standing there are mostly meeters&greeters or a 50-50 mix of them and passengers? A critical factor affecting any public place in terms of capacity crunch AND/OR traffic/people flow would be a large concentration of stagnant traffic/people. A better understanding of the mix of people seen in the photo would go a long way in coming up with solutions for keeping the people/traffic moving so that the primary purpose of safely&efficiently accomodating air passengers can be served. Such a group of stationary people(non passengers) concentrated in one place pose a security risk and can spill over to the roadway hindering free flow of traffic and the flow of passengers trying to get into the building.
BIAL - Crowds On Opening Day
That day was the first sunday after BIAL opened & there were too many 'visitors' out there to get a feel of the facility (I was one of them !). Passengers, in comparison were few from what I had observed. The no. of such visitors blocking access for legitimate users will die down soon & those seeing their wards off will decline due to the inconvenience of long distance to the airport, I think.
Parking lots on that evening were also quite full & I had initially wondered if the area was sufficient, but I noticed later that most people were just visiting the new airport.
where do the stairs lead?
Hi
Aybody knows where the stairs seen in this photo -http://flickr.com/photos/clickitaway/2536636860/in/set-72157605343685426/ leads to?
stairs...
