Today's Business Standard article reads: Maytas Infra completes road project in B'lore.
I have used this so called Nagarabhavi Ring Road many times, from Nagarbhavi Circle to Magadi Road. It is a well built road, and as it stands now, has no proper end points!. You will see a half completed flyover on Magadi Road end, and on the other end, has not even intersected with Mysore road yet. Somehow Maytas declares the road complete.... Interesting.
Anything goes for the markets, I guess.

May be the ring-road straightening work!!
Ravi,
You are talking about two different roads in the vicinity. There is a ring road (operational for a few years now!!) connecting kengeri on Mysore road to Magadi Road passing through the fag end of Bangalore university and nagarbhavi.
About half a km from the end of this road on Magadi road, there is another stretch of ring road connecting Magadi road and Tumkur road. It is here at the junction of this ring road and magadi road where a flyover is being constructed. If my understanding is right, this flyover is part of the NICE expressway connecting magadi road to Nayandhalli on Mysore road. This work is far from complete, since work is yet to bein on Mysore rd side.
The project being mentioned in the article, as per my guess, is the straightening of ring road near BU. As you may know, the existing ring road runs perpendicular to mysore road till BU and then runs parallel to it till kengeri. there was a project, on which work started about two years back, to straighten the ring road and build a road from BU (on ring road) to a point on Mysore road closer to the city, this road was to touch Mysore road closer to RV college. I am just making a guess, and I havent been to the place for about two years now!!

Here is the google map of the area. BDA site has a much smaller map.
Between (A) & (B) I see work yet to be done. Point (B) is where it is supposed to intersect with Mysore Road.

What BDA says
Here is a link on the project
http://www.bdabangalore.org/ongoing.htm#14
BDA is executing Outer Ring Road work between Mysore Road-Magadi Road for a length of 5.7 Km-at a cost of Rs. 92 crores. This road saves about 13 Kms of extra journey to commuters to reach Mysore Road from Magadi Road (via Kengeri).
I think you got the right road. Is the flyover also part of the Maytas contract?
-----
Maytas has not been quoted as an example of probity in recent days.

Ravi,
Good job in pointing out the glaring discrepancies between Maytas' statement and the work on the ground. I live just a stone's throw away from the road and while the stretch between Magadi Road and Nagarbhavi Circle is complete (excluding the flyover at Magadi Road), the section from Nagarbhavi Circle continues for about a kilometer towards Mysore Road and comes to an abrupt end. There is a railway overbridge as well as a flyover to be constructed there, neither of which is even near completion, leave alone complete.

You have got it all mixed up. In fact, Ravi was referring to only one of these roads - the second one from Sumanahalli to Nayandahalli, which has nothing to do with NICE. The NICE road is much beyond, near the Janapriya township.
The project being mentioned in the article, as per my guess, is the straightening of ring road near BU.
It is understood that this project was abandoned long back, in lieu of the abovementioned alignment of the ORR.

BDA to take up five more road projects
Bangalore, Nov 7, DHNS:
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will take up five new projects at an estimated cost of Rs 189 crore to facilitate signal free flow of traffic along the 62-km length Outer Ring Road.
The approval was accorded at the Authority meeting held here on Saturday to take up a flyover at Bhadrappa Extension along the ORR between Hebbal flyover and Tumkur Road, construction of additional loop and improvement of junction at K R Puram flyover, creation of facility for free turn towards Bellary Road for the vehicles coming from Marathally and construction of a grade separator at Nayandahally at the junction of ORR and Mysore Road beside construction of flyover at Nagavara junction.
The total estimated cost of these works is Rs 189 crore. The break up is Rs 31 crore for the construction of flyover at Bhadrappa Extension along the ORR; Rs 15 crore for the construction of additional loop and improvement of junction at K R Puram flyover, Rs 36 crore for creation of facility for free turn towards Bellary Road for vehicles coming from Marathahalli and Rs 72 crore for the construction of grade separator at Nayandahalli at the junction of ORR and Mysore Road and Rs 35 crore for the construction of flyover at Nagavara junction.
The Authority also approved the tenders to take up junction improvement at Kadubeesanahally and Mahadevapura junctions at a cost of Rs 39 crore and Rs 36 crore respectively.

Nagarbhavi ORR open for traffic
The ORR piece which was under construction for a long time has been opened for traffic from yesterday!
I incidentally got this info from the traffic display system on Victoria road on my way back yest..pretty neat!!
Here are some snaps I took today of this road..
http://farm6.static.flick...
There is a two level grade seperator being constructed at the ORR-mysore road jn...this should help clear this junction of traffic snarls..
flyover almost ready
One level of the flyover connecting the ring roads is amost complete and I think they will open it for traffic soon..below is a pic from last sunday..they are already asphalting the bridge..also sivasailam was saying that the metro work is also almost over and the barricades would be off in few days!
Thanks Srinidhi for the info and picture..
Thanks Srinidhi for sharing the info and picture. Hopefully the mess of Nayandahalli comes to an end atleast for the traffic going straight. They should put plastic cones to segregate the straight going traffic on ORR with the rest of the traffic so that there is no confusion.
I felt that the Nayandahalli Railway Station should have been in this junction next to Metro station for better integration with Metro and city buses. Now the station is in isolation and reaching there is a night mare.
'newdelli' flyover leg opened..
'newdelli' was the nick name for nayandahalli called by a conductor in the 90's...never thought it would be in the midst of so much activities..
one leg of the flyover connecting the ring road has been thrown open for traffic..its such a relief!
The other leg connecting the mysore road is still under construction and the pillars are almost done..the metro station work too is also getting done..
Nayandahalli FlyOver
Sri,
thanks for the pictures & info. Since you are from the area, can you tell us if there are any pedestrian /bus & metro users' facilities also being built with this construction ?
For example, how are pedestrian issues being addressed for bus users at the intersection, also for Metro users & for modal shifts ? Or is it too early to comment, with lot of construction still remaining ?
From the rendering of Nayandahalli development, there appear to be nothing, but I am not entirely sure, & would like to take this up, but need inputs.
nothing for NMT
there is absolutely no provisions for NMT today with what ever work is completed..infact there are potential traffic collision points already with the current design..
the flyover(4 lanes) which is completed now connects the ring road however a sbustantial amount of traffic coming from mysore road towards PES college/Banashankari passes below the flyover and traverses on the old service road and merges abruptly onto the ring road where the flyover lands..thats really poor design and will lead to a sure mess..
About bus stops, I dont know what BMTC plans after the metro stn comesup..but as of today the stands are before and after the junction..one at yokogowa facility and one at nayandahalli..there needs be better co-ordination when metro comes up..not sure if it will ever happen as we see nothing happening with the byappanahalli metro station or other stations in the current reach 1
Pedestrian Issues
Sri - thanks.
Guess we will have to begin a campaign on this sometime soon since the measures taken to address bus halts midway through flyovers along east ORR are not being replicated elsewhere.
Need a `clover leaf'
While this flyover will help a bit I dont see why they didnt plan on making it a `clover leaf' junction. Traffic coming from Mysore wanting to go towards Banashankari will have to wait for a signal, I suppose and this will clog up traffic on Mysore road.
Similarly for traffic coming on ORR from the Northern or Western parts of the city wanting to turn towards Mysore - which is a pretty large number amount of the traffic - has to wait at a signal. At least for this group something must be done - there is space over the canal for this to be made.
