- A statutory organization set up in 1964 under the BWSSB Act whose core functions & responsibilities include :
- Providing water supply & sewerage network and sewage disposal systems
- Ensuring sufficient of domestic water supply to the required standards.
- Levying & collecting water/sanitation charges on a no loss/no profit basis.
- BWSSB’s jurisdiction covers the Bangalore Metropolitan Area (1306 Sq. Kms out of which 455 Sq.Km is Green Belt)
- BMRDA area is 8005 Sq. Kms.

- City Distribution System:
- The city has about 5638 kms of distribution network ranging from 50 mm to 600 mm dia.
- Rechlorination is done at city reservoirs to maintain residual chlorine of 0.2ppm at consumer end.
- Chlorine plants installed in the city - 46 Nos

- WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT
- Testing physical, chemical and bacteriological parameters of raw water and treated water at treatment plants.
- Testing samples from distribution system in the city.
- More than 60 water samples are collected every day from the distribution system and tested.
- Two mobile labs with portable testing kit collect samples from the city distribution system every day.
- Customer friendly initiatives
- Advanced Interactive Voice Response System for booking complaints is functional.(155313)
- Electronic Clearance System is introduced.
- Customer Charter launched.

- Informative Website in position.

- Total No. of KIOSK installed – 74 Nos
- 24x7 multi-utility fully automated Water bill payment KIOSK KaverEcom - with facilities for collecting cash, cheques and DDs is in operaton.

- GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS)
- All the information of water and sewerage pipeline network, and all other assets of BWSSB has been incorporated in GIS.
- It is going to become a major tool for the management of the entire water supply and sanitation system, including revenue billing.
- SERVICE TO URBAN POOR
- 10% of the urban population are living in slums
- Water for these slums is supplied through public taps free of cost
- Few slums are provided with individual connections which are exempted from access charges except for Rs. 550 towards meter cost
- The lowest tariff adopted is Rs.6/KL
- Initiatives
- Unaccounted for water – Pilot project completed in central part of Bangalore.
- Setting of Recycling and Reuse of Waste water for potable purpose.
- Rain water harvesting to meet demand in domestic and industrial buildings.
- Dual pipe supply of Potable and Non-Potable water in New layouts.

- Installation of bulk flow meters on feeder mains in the city
- Hand held terminals for spot meter reading
- Installation of SCADA to all the main valves, controlling point at Cauvery Bhavan

- Bangalore is blessed with undulated terrain having natural gradient
- Wastewater generated flows out of the city in all the four directions
- Wastewater generated is collected and conveyed through the sewerage network to the treatment plants for treatment up to Secondary level and disposed to the natural course
- BWSSB has setup 12 treatment plants of secondary level of various capacities all-round the city – 718 MLD Capacity
- Two Tertiary treatment plants of total capacity 70 MLD has been established and treated water is reused for non potable purposes
