Missing the bus

Hi, Warm greetings to all of you for the new year. I have been reading the posts on this forum for a while now, and today I decided to take the plunge myself.
The BMRC has been hyping on integration with other modes of transport right from the beginning. Sadly, they have overlooked two crucial spots where integration would have been of great help, on the East-West corridor.

Moving the capital out of Bangalore

This is an idea that has been discussed before, including on this forum. I am coming from the view not of the governance structure of Bangalore (autonomy etc) which is an orthogonal issue, but of the power of such a move to take the pressure off Bangalore.

Bangalore Urban Planning Center

GOK and IISC will come together to establish a Center for Infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CiSTUP). I really like the idea of an institution like IISC heading this effort.

Help - Lets track JNNURM in Karnataka

Want to get deeper into Praja and beyond discussions? Here is your chance. We are looking for some people to join hands in tracking JNNURM reforms and projects at Karnataka. If you didn't know, JNNURM is a reforms-linked investment scheme to help states on urban infrastructure. States get a big fund to tap into, but with a catch - they must commit to implementing some urban governance reforms.

Safe Passage: Minutes of 28 Dec meeting

During the two hour meeting the following was discussed:

Traffic Policeman menace in bangalore

I feel the Traffic Police in Bangalore in name of Traffic Management is turning into a Traffic Police Menace. I have seen them trying to catch the two wheelers all the time and taking bribe from them. Is there any mechanism available to stop this. Further I also see them stopping the Trucks and taking money from them.

State Level Reforms linked to Security issues

As important as fixing the security issues, are the fixing of certain key issues pertaining to governance, the deficiencies around which are the actual cause of the precarious security environment prevailing. A few of the more important ones are listed below.

Bangalore and Ribbon Development

Ribbon Development

Classic definition of Ribbon Development is building houses and businesses along the roads radiating from a town. Dictionary definition of the term is "building complex in a continuous row along a road". The term comes from observations in the west in early 20th century when personal automobiles made it possible for people to live far from the city, and many chose to build houses next to the radial highways leading in to the city.

Bangalore context

In Bangalore's context, the Ribbon Development phenomena is see in similar and different ways.

Convert HAL to NSG Hub

Our city, one that which gives modern India a respectable image is being denied a NSG hub due to political reasons. While Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and Hyderabad have been given an NSG Hub, our city has been denied an NSG hub. The Congress does not care about our security.
