Improving Road Safety - Fiji Experiment

Happened to come across this PDF on worldbank website. Read item (b) - Fiji.

Interesting.... 10% of the third party insurance premium goes to Fiji National Road Safety Council (NRSC). Benfits both insurance companies and the population.

Brand IIT the only way, or Karnataka Inst. of Tech possible?

This is a reaction to "Demand for IIT rejected again". It seems the main reason KA's request was turned down was because the state already has IISc and IIM here. Is getting a central govt sponsored, IIT branded institute the best way of setting up a premier education institution in the state?

Tata Motors: The makers of Nano do not consider Road Safety their Priority

Dear all,

I write after a long pause on this matter. After letting go off intial anger, I still wondered whether or not to blow the whistle (in a way) on Corporates that oft claim to be the Champions of people and society. Part of me perhaps was worried of becoming infamous for the wrong reasons, being mis-understood etc.

Fund Children; not Schools

The most striking lesson for India is from Sweden’s education reforms in the early 1990s. Sweden has decentralised its system - shifting the control of schools from the centre to municipalities - and has given parents a choice whether to send their children to state or private schools (but paid by the state with a voucher).

Enhancing school education to counter some everyday problems

- Corruption
- Traffic congestion and chaos
- Unorganized & uncontrolled urban growth
- Complete lack of civic sense and amenities
- Pollution (land, air and noise pollution) and it's affects on health

Humour laden ideas for BTRAC's creative project

Traffic

Last week we discussed KRDCL's decision to involve a creative agency to improve driver behaviour. The enthusiasm of praja members was evident and several of us wondered if it is worth giving a shot at this!!

As cosmic coincidence would have it, we also got hooked to satiric videos from a Bangalore based groups of youngsters on youtube. Our friends from mindry.in make wonderful, homemade, 100% organic videos that mock popular culture, Current affairs, News, Controversies, TV shows, Personalities and just about everything else.

In what consultants would call a 'synergistic opportunity', we put the one and one together and asked them if they will be game to jump in with us on this.
