Long pending Civic Elections

The way the BWSSB, in the absence of BBMP elected mayor and his team, is going ahead with its job of planning and maintaining the city infrastructure is not acceptable. Reference is made to the earlier two threads on the subject on SWD.

Kiran Bedi and gender bias

Kiran Bedi born on June 9, 1949 is a Peshawaria. While studying at the Sacred Heart Convent, Kiran joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and took up tennis. After school she studed Political Science at the Government College for Women, Amritsar.

Heat Island Effect

Dear All,

Namma Metro - it just gets better and better.....

This might be a bit alarmist but this is a report I read earlier today. It does not seem too surprising given that the BMRCL got around to finding digging specialists after starting to dig..

Storm Water Drain (SWD) Muck / Mud Traps

“In most countries, sieve/meshes only hold back items which are too big to clog the drains. It is hard to stop mud from entering drains using meshes.”              - IDS

Auto strike...

If only there was an auto strike every day ! The city is so much quieter and calmer. And traffic is so much more orderly....

I have nothing really against the notion of autorickshaws - I use them myself - but I believe they should

- obey traffic laws

- do their job correctly

- maintain their vehicles well

- not remove silencers etc.

Free Helmet....

One of the ammendments in the year 2005 to the The Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 says

Roads over drains - The erstwhile "Club Pyramid" project

According to this report in DH, two elevated roads are being planned over SWDs :

1) Seshadripuram to Double Road; &

2) Rajajinagar to Mysore Road.

Early bird offer - SWD Cleaning

The Place is at Indiranagar Double road. Excellent clearing of closed Storm water Drain of muck clogging the drains is almost coming to an end.

Is Bangalore a good place to bring up a child?

IDS's post on the Olympics set me thinking a bit.  Though the title of my post refers to Bangalore, we can substitute "any Indian mega city" in its place.

Bangalore today is very different from the Bangalore in which I grew up (70s and 80s).  I won't get into that too much.

Motor Vehicles Act 1988

This is actually an all India article.  I am posting it under Bangalore, Karnataka because this particular announcement is relevant to this state.

Praja Monthly Meet Oct,10 2009 Bypanahalli Metro Station

We gathered at the Bypanahalli Railway station to day at 9 AM. The following were present:-

Service Life of Elevated Metro

There have been numerous debates on wether we take metro underground or do we have it on elevated structures..these have been mostly related to the following:

1. Number of tree cut and properties damaged

2. Cost of going underground

Peak Oil before 2020 a significant risk - Report from the UK

The other big theme that I follow is peak oil.  There has been a flurry of articles in the mainstream media that last few days on this topic.

2020 Olympics in Bangalore

I would suggest we start building an Olympic park near Bangalore so we can bid for 2020 olympics. Of the BRIC countries only we havent won the bid to host an Olympics yet. The economy is booming and we can get some funding/private participation now.
