Cars dominate cities, especially in America. But as many cities in other countries have found, removing cars can turn busy streets into lively public places. Now the U.S. is starting to catch on.

New underpasses/flyovers on ORR - a suggestion

You may have noticed that Outer Ring Road upgrade work is picking up serious momentum. Work on service lanes is in full swing, and it seems like survey work is on for the new underpass/flyovers as well. So if all goes well, we should have a nice six lane "corridor" from Hebbal to silk board junction. Good show indeed! At the same time, it'll be good to look ahead at the impact of this ORR upgrade project.

Hot Pursuit of Solar Energy

In its ‘hot pursuit ’for more solar energy, after the State Government set the ball rolling with its measures to increase production from renewable energy sources through public private partnerships, the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) has received a good response from the private players.

The most striking lesson for India is from Sweden’s education reforms in the early 1990s. Sweden has decentralised its system - shifting the control of schools from the centre to municipalities - and has given parents a choice whether to send their children to state or private schools (but paid by the state with a voucher).
