NICE Freeway becomes part of PRR!

Good news to start the week..

"The government and NICE will collaborate on the Bangalore Development Authority’s 112-km Peripheral Ring Road project that has been jinxed by land acquisition and funding issues since it was proposed over five years ago ...  The deal, reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to NICE, will realign the PRR in an arch half its original length and connect it with NICE’s 42km peripheral road. The PRR will join the two ends of the NICE freeway at Tumkur Road and Hosur Road and circumnavigate the city outside the Outer Ring Road."

At last some sensible decision from the govt..

do not have the link to the above report..but sounds credible!

Conflicts with what we heard

A definite sane decision, we have talked about this so much here. JD-s govt was trying to compete with NICE. Its better to collaborate as long as you can keep monopolistic tendencies under check.

In one of our meetings, someone had mentioned that some work has already been done on the souther half of PRR (the loop that would run parallel to NICE PRR). If land has already been acquired there, will it now be returned?

I couldn't read the newslink, seems to be gone now. Did it say anything that could imply that NICE itself could be building the North loop of PRR?

Land acquired and demolished is the problem

Well, like the 'Mohammad Bin Tuglaq's'  rule, Government  plan something, acquire land for that, demolish the buildings and all of a sudden scrap the project.  I was recently mentioning about BJP demolishing the Delhi BRT corridor. This is another very good example.

I feel that this land which was acquired will go into the hands of 'land maphia' agents and will not be returned to the original owners. Even if it is returned, houses, agricultural lands will be not be like what it used to be. A huge loss for them.

Connection to BIAL

I hope GoK also takes serious notice of Mr Ashok Kheny's offer to link Tumkur Road to Bellary Road by continuing his NICE road.

Ideally, if there is a loop from Hosur Road to Tumkur Road and thence to Bellary Road, it would provide quick connectivity to Electronics City.

Perhaps NICE should also bid for PRR

I think NICE should bid for PRR. It would make more sense given Kheny's expertise and implementation skills.

NICE PRR becomes tolled from Tomorrow

A sudden move by NICE, its peripheral road will be tolled from 18th Dec as per TV News. It is not completed fully since the bridges over Mysore Road, Magadi Road, Kanakapura Road  are all under construction.

Because of the Bridge construction on the Mysore Road,  vehicles enter part of the Peripheral Road entry and then immediately take exit. Work is going on in full swing.

I still don't know if the link road from Ring Road to NICE Peripheral road is complete or not.

Toll is where PRR conversion might help!

Too many trucks have been using this NICE road to reach Tumkur road from Hosur road already and its fair on NICE part that they have started charging for the use..

However there are too many things that come from the charges..how are they obligated to the service they are providing..the road is not complete and there are still saftey issues that need to be addressed..I am not sure how authorities can allow them to collect toll when the road is not fully completed!

Also converting this link road to a PRR could eventually keep the toll under control!

Excellent news on the PRR!

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is in talks with Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) to acquire a kilometre of land to complete the ring and connect the PRR to the existing 40.8 kms of NICE road. Apart from this, NICE is trying to barter with BDA and construct 19 kms of the road connecting Tumkur and Bellary to ensure unhindered connectivity to the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA).

.. the agency(BDA) has decided to complete phase-1(Tumkur Rd -> Bellary Rd -> Hosur rd) and link it with the existing NICE road to make a complete ring...

More news on this..here

ABIDE is leading this and if they do this..it will be counted as their and BJP govt's biggest achievement!

Good move.  Having the NICR PRR go all the way to NH7 (Bellary Road) makes sense.  People from E-City will have to travel maybe 80km vs. current 65 but can cover it in probably 90mins.

BDA to choose private partner to complete PRR

Read this in the expressbuzz.

http://www.expressbuzz.com/edition/story.aspx?

Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has finally decided to choose a private partner to complete the construction of the remaining part of the peripheral ring road, within a month.

The road will be laid on a public private partnership basis and ten big construction companies including Soma Constructions, L&T, Nagarjuna Constructions, Reliance, Madhucon and GMR Group of Constructions had submitted the request for qualification to get the partnership to lay the remaining part of the road...

BDA officials said that the road connecting Hosur Road with Tumkur Road will be 65 km long and 100 feet wide....

Hopefully this will join the NICE PRR at both ends and there won't be some 2 lane dirt track that connects them.  Given the names bidding this should not be the case.

No timelines given in terms of completion.

Hopefully there will be some toll correction happening when the other loop opens..

Also by the looks of it..they are looking at smaller road occupying 100ft..which i guess is for reducing the land acquiring costs!

Btw the land notification has already been done for this stretch..so it should be a smooth ride for implementation!

100ft more than enough

ಮೇಲೆ

Land notification <> land acquisition as we have seen with NM.

I hope they provide clear stretches to the private player ( approx 5 km) so that it can keep work going while other land issues are sorted out.  The private players will, of course, work to finish this quickly as they need to start collecting toll quickly.

100 ft of road width including 6ft of median is more than enough.  This means 90+ft of usable road.  (No need for pavements on this).  3 lanes of 12 feet + road shoulder of 10 ft on both sides will be 92 ft.  This fascination for 150ft and 200ft needs to end.

PRR only 100 Ft ?

ಮೇಲೆ
185 users have liked.

100 Mtrs (330 feet) was the proposed right of way for the PRR, as per earlier notifications by BDA. This road had included provisions for BRT, bicycle lanes & also for train tracks.

If 100 ft is all they plan to have, the road is going to be just as cramped as most others & will permit only 4 clear lanes for truck traffic (A six-lane road needs appx'ly 150 feet, 8-lane 200 feet, & so on).

As per calculations above, trying to fit six lanes within a 100 ft width will mean no pavements, no shoulder drains, no biking lanes, no provisions for public transport, etc.

The picture below shows a city street with 10 lanes & service roads, etc. & the width is over 250 feet, including green patches & pavements.

Has NICE rd been completed ?

ಮೇಲೆ
203 users have liked.

Has the NICE peripheral rd been completed between Hosur rd & Tumkur rd, including all interchanges ?  Can someone who travels on the rd or knows the area advise if all intersections have been completed (viz. Kanakapura rd, Mysore Road & Magadi Road).

The Gottigere lake issue (Bannerghatta rd) has just been cleared by courts, so it may take some time for them to build the ramps, I guess & also to provide interchanges.
