A couple of years ago, Puttenahalli Lake, JP Nagar 7th Phase (near Brigade Millennium) was a garbage dump. Today it is filled up with a fair amount of fresh water with 200 trees around and is home to more than 50 species of birds, including European migratories. My wife and three others, along with the BBMP, were instrumental in bringing the lake back from the brink of extinction. They formed a registered trust PNLIT, that has been officially handed over the lake for nurturing. Expenses are being met through public donations. More information on the website www.puttenahallilake.in. Awesome work by Aarti and team - and, of course, behind every committed lady is her Yajamaanru, alvae! :))) I have already voted. I hope more Prajagalu follow suit - tomorrow is the last day.

I'll proudly say that we, in Koramangala, also made a significant mark on the lake revival front (check this). In-Shah-Allah, by next monsoon, we should have a beautiful lake here too, and we could invite some of your birds over.

YAJAMAANNRU - PLEASE CONVEY MY CONGRATULATIONS TO YOUR WIFE AND THE TEAM AT PNLIT.

USING THE CONTACTS PAGE ON THE WBSITE I HAVE EMAILED THE GROUP WITH THE PROPOSAL BELOW, PLEASE HELP TO ENSURE THIS REACHES THE APPROPRIATE PEOPLE THERE AND ALSO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND INSIGHTS INTO THE IDEA.

Addressed Trust Members,

Congratulations of the efforts of rejuvenating the lake!

I am part of a small "family & friends" group of Amateur angling enthusiasts, however often we are unable to find a clean & safe location to practice our hobby. The Lakes are either too dirty to allow any fish to breed or too dirty for us and the kids to even spend a morning or evening near. There are some lakes that have been auctioned to contractors who do not allow fishing.

If allowed we are willing to pay a "fee" for each fishing rod - anything between Rs. 100 - 200 per day is reasonable. additionally please note that to ensure that this is privilege is not abused the following rules/guidelines can be established. I am most willing to help is formulating these;

- Only members can take part in angling
- One can become a member by paying a Rs. 300 annual fee and get an id card
- Fishing is allowed on a daily license of Rs. 100 per rod
- Members can bring along guest who need to pay Rs 150 for a day license per rod
- Members can be accompanied free by guest/other members who do not fish but just accompany to appreciate the hobby and the lake
- Guest must be accompanied by a member
- Only adult fish can be taken home for the pot - A limit of 2 per rod!
- All other fish to be released back into the lake after being photographed
- Group not allowed to carry the following items - alcohol, plastic packets and other pollutants
- Other guidelines and rules can be framed after a discussion

Additionally we can help by providing information and resources to stock the lake with other species of fish that are Endemic to the area - this will allow for better variety of fauna and attract more birds and other aquatic creatures to the lake. This is a proven scientific means to keep the lake pollution free as well.

If you believe that this is a mutually beneficial idea I am willing to discuss this in more detail.

Regards
Clive VanBuerle ( Jal Vayu Vihar, Kamanahalli, Bangalore 84)

water sports too?

@ Clive  -  Great suggestion. Simultaneously, why not promote water sports too - of the non-motorised kind (without disturbing the birds)? In fact, IDS was visioning his currently 5 yr old son heading the Indian rowing team in the 2028 Olympics. He was hoping to get the Hebbal lake, close to his house, in proper shape for nurturing the sport. May be the Puttenahalli team can join the effort too.
