Governance

Saw this in email, I guess all those who had registered on abide website would have received it.

...

At this juncture, the government is considering the Task Force’s recommendations to strengthen regional governance, and will very likely introduce legislation based on the recommendations in the coming months. At this time, we are keen to therefore seek the citizen’s inputs to refining the recommendations further, and to have your voice heard by the lawmakers as well. A series of public consultations is being scheduled in the city. The first such consultation will be held at the following venue:

National Games Village, Builder’s Club-Koramangala.

Date & Time: Sunday 12th July 2009 at 11 am

We hope you will attend this upcoming event, and help members of the ABIDe Task Force in gathering citizen inputs for subsequent action to build a better Bengaluru.

Discussing local governance proposal

From the email, it looks like this consultation is on Abide's blueprint on regional governance. While we discuss BBMP's problems no end, we must realize that the long term and once for all solution to things we blame BBMP for is in such measures to improve regional governance structure.

I will try my best to attend this event. Hope more Praja members will join as well.

SB,

Looking forward to more details.

I did not receive any email. I am a registered user on ABIDE's site and even had submitted my responses to some of the plans they had came up.

But I am yet to see a acknowledgment or any other response from ABIDE for this or any other meetings previously.

I think they are going with a philosophy that every body is not needed in a public consultation process.

They want only "Yes Minister" types to attend

U R very much right.  Same thing was being noticed during BATF sumits; I was an invitee for the first sumit, asked certain 'inconvenient questions' to the Chairman, BWSSB regarding 'making money by pumping air through the ultra sensitive electronic water meters', for which the Chairman became a little purterbed and retorted 'this is the most unchritable question' !!?

I was not invited for the second sumit - but I had kept a watch and did attend to ask some more 'inconvenient questions' and did not get satisfactory answers.

Now ABIDe is nothing but old wine in new bottle and they appear to be inviting only "Yes Minister" types to the public consultation.

I had attended the first meeting sometime back held in Koramangala Club, as a volunteer. I remember that Murali is a member. Mr. Devesh R Agarwal  of Infomart and Praja  had also attended this meet. For me It looks like abide is genuinely trying to interact with the public. Others in Praja may know better perhaps.  Mr. Suresh called me to get my confirmation about my attending.

This is the email I received:

Dear Bengalurean,

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to the ABIDe Task Force.

ABIDe, which stands for Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure and Development Task Force is an initiative of Chief Minister, Karnataka, Mr B.S Yeddyurappa and comprises of several noted citizens and leaders who have come forward to build a better Bengaluru. Member of Parliament Mr Ananth Kumar is the Vice Chairman of ABIDe, Member of Parliament,Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar is the Convenor.

Since its inception, ABIDe members have put together a series of recommendations before the Government on specific issues

Ø  Regional Governance

Ø  Traffic and Transport

Ø  Heritage

These recommendations are contained in the reports published by ABIDe, and available online atwww.abidebengaluru.in.  The recommendations also contain a blueprint for action by the government, to create rapid changes in the areas of focus.

Hi,

Today only I registered at the ABIDe site, but I have got this notification in the newspapers today, or my question is that we can directly go and attend this right?

As far as I know, there is no official pass or anything like that. But if you are going,  I will advise go prepared, read the blueprints on Regional Governance and offer suggestions based on its contents.

[Some personal engagements kept me from attending this event]

From 3-4 first hand reports from those who attended, and morning paper reports, I can guess how this would have gone, but I am sure all members are looking forward to some nice first hand reports from this "interaction".

Please share your report via a new post.

cheers,

SB
