Peripheral Ring Road is back with BDA

Traffic

http://www.bdabangalore.org/pprnew.htmThe Peripheral Ring Road is back. Not much new as far as the specs are concerned, but the big changes are, one, BDA (state govt) will be executing it, not NHAI (central govt) and two, it will be a PPP project.

There were several reports across papers today (ET, Biz-standard) and here is a summary:

Vehicle Ownership Restrictions : Singapore Style

Have a look at how Singapore manages it's traffic:

We could have a similar, or atleast a modified system like the one above.

Can we hope for safer roads

EnvironmentTraffic

Not sure if people saw this today ("send drunk drivers ...") in the TOI. Here is another link (newstodaynet).

"Finally, there is a serious effort to discipline our traffic. The Law Commission has prepared a report on traffic discipline that sets down stringent penalties and exacting norms to straighten out India's notoriously indisciplined roads.

TTMCs - Will They Solve Problems ?

TrafficPublic Transport
This is a continuation of discussion started by thebangalorean ('bus stops to have shopping malls'). Here is what the CTTP report states about development of Traffic & Transportation Mgmnt Centers, or TTMCs (Shantinagar TTMC pic courtesy rednivaram):

"TTMC’s are planned to have multi-level parking lot, public utilities like mini-shopping centres and food courts. These centers in addition to providing park & ride facilities are also proposed to act as hubs for Mini–Buses planned by BMTC to transport the commuters from every major residential area to the nearest TTMC, so that commuters can board a bus of their choice.

All for better Bangalore

Namaskara yallarigu. I have been one more member of this community who visit regularly but dont contribute anything. After being in a country like US for nearly yr and half and seeing the infrastructure here, would like to add few things. On my opinion these might work well as a start up process to improve Namma Bangalore.

Traffic has been the major thing for Bangalore. Any where we see today everyone speaks of Bangalore traffic. Snail pace movement.

Delhi BRT - Lessons for Bangalore ?

Metro RailTrafficPublic Transport

It's one of the most controversial infrastructure projects in the country but for all those who said that the Delhi Bus Corridor system was an out and out failure, here is a reality check.

A poll conducted by NDTV shows that there is a sharp divide in opinion on the success of the project between those who use buses on the corridor and those who drive cars on the same stretch.

Traffic police - why stand and deliver?

Traffic

Was driving my F-I-L's Santro the other day when I was stopped by one of those police parties. 5 of them, settled under a thick tree. Half of them waiting to stop unsuspecting vehicles, the other half busy 'punishing' the 'successful' catches. I never get stopped when driving bigger cars, but the 9 year old santro 'fit' their criteria.

How Industry can help reduce traffic congestion

TrafficPublic Transport
With the rising cost of fuels and the congestion on the roads one would hate to drive but as work demands we grind our teeth and just pull along. How long is this going to work? I have a friend in the IT Industry, His job is mostly at client locations and currently rides a 2 wheeler. His company offered him a hike of 15K if he moved to a car. Ouch!

Traffic signals on Bellary Road

Hi all, As most of us have experienced, there is a huge jam on the junction of D Rajagopal that is a left towards Sanjaynagar from Bellary Road. Because of the existing traffic signal, traffic on both ways, from BIAL on Bellary Road and to BIAL on Bellary Road is stuck up for a long time at this signal.
