I hope Prajagalu will be participating in the event in large numbers. The continued shennanigans of Yeddy show that the likes of him care a damn for propriety, the way things are. And, unless the Jan Lokpal bill gets passed, there's very little hope for this country.

Very much as I would have liked to be there, since I am travelling that day (something that had been fixed long ago, and can't be postponed or cancelled), I won't be making it.

No week passes by without the news of Lokayukta raiding or catching the government officials pants down. But what is surprising is we hardly hear about these officials getting prosecuted for offence they commit. Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde is on record saying most of the officials caught are reinstated in short period of time.

Dont't believe this. Then read this from Deccan Chronicle.

"...Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hedge said one of the accused, Mr Rajanna, was caught for graft last year. "The officer was caught in a trap case while accepting a bribe of Rs 85,000 in 2010 in Bengaluru. Despite several communications, officials caught while accepting bribe are also been reinstated", Justice Hegde said..."

If this is the state of affairs with LA and other investigating agencies, is there any wisdom to continue to have these statutory bodies if no purpose is met in the end? If government of the day does not believe in these institutes, then it is committing a criminal SIN in having these institutes for the sake of having it.

No wonder we hear the frustrations of Justice Hegde and his dedicated team of officers so often. Government is really wasting the skills and efforts of these people.

Lokaukta has no powers to prosecute directly

Unless the government is keen to punish the offenders nothing can really come out of Lokaukta’s work. I think the Lokaukta being under the elected representatives is the stumbling block. There is an ample justification for the Lokaukta to come under the High court and Lokpal the Supreme Court. This may not be possible in the near future for obvious reasons. In addition the entire police force should be under the Lokaukt / Lokpal.

The Raja / Hasan Ali cases are the examples.
