Background on Nandan Nilekani's appointment to head UID project!

Governance

The appointment of Infy's Nandan nilekani as the head of India's UID project did not came out of the blue. It seems PM got the wind of NN's own writings that talked about providing Unique ID to all Indian citizens. It is not surprising that UPA government is linking the UID to the better delivery of social programs. We all felt the need for a ID system for our own needs like voting, Driving License, Passports etc, but UPA government has taken the leaf out of NN's own thinking which he wrote in his book "Imagining India: Ideas for the New Century"  and linked it to the governance and social justice. The Vajra 500 route, rapid, but last mile remains

Finally, we managed to convince parents to leave behind their car for the J P Nagar to Whitefield trip they take so often to come see us. And now they love it. Better ride and no tension of driving. What clinched the deal was a simple game one evening, when their grandson said "let me count all 500Cs coming the other way".

Knowledge commissions - national vs state

If you are reading newspapers carefully, education bagge thumba yochane  is happening. I think there are at least 3 think tanks working overtime. Mr Kapil Sibal's "don't be afraid, love your school" line of thinking, National Knowledge Commission reports, and back home, a Karnataka knowledge commission is also active. Before you read more, answer some quiz questions.

The highlight was also the liberal packets of Mysore paak (from Mysore) and Maddur vada (from Maddur) that Manivannan had so sweetly brought with him.

When the “who’s who” of the secretariat are preferring quarantine services of private nursing homes and corporate hospitals over government hospitals, it remains a complex question in common people’s mind, whether it is worthwhile to visit a government hospital at all.

If the tourism department has its way, the core heritage zone in the city - like the Palace, Town Hall and Chamundi Hills — would undergo a complete makeover by the time Mysore Palace celebrates its centenary in 2012.

Friends, To the best of my knowledge, the storm water drains presently in vogue in Bangalore (and I guess in most other Indian cities) is built on the lines of that existed in Roman cities 2000 years back.
