Traffic

I was googling around when I stumbled upon this page on Bangalore Police website. Well written open talk, that goes to tell you that they know the traffic problems and possible solutions. First up, a clear admission of the problem:

As there is no growth in infrastructure compared to the growth of population, both human and vehicular, and in the absence of planned investment on such infrastructural problems, various issues have arisen. One such problem is the vehicular congestion apart from problems of road safety.

Next, the dislike of road structure:

The City’s road structure is radial in nature and converging in the core region. Though there is said to be in existence concentric orbital roads connecting the radial roads, they are discontinuous.

Read on and notice a list of key roads they identified for improvements to make maximum impact:

... identified by the Bangalore City Traffic Police (BCTP) for diverting truck traffic on these roads which would have resulted in decongesting the roads on other important arterial roads within the city. The roads identified were:

(a) Road from NH4 to Nayandanahalli to join Bangalore - Mysore road (13.4 km)

(b) Nayandanahalli to Kengeri (7.3 km)

(c) Kengeri to Tavarakere (12.5 km)

(d) Tavarakere to Nelamangala (16 km)

(e) Dobaspet to Doddaballapur (34 km)

(f) Doddaballapur to Devanahalli (19.2 km)

(g) Devanahalli to Hoskote (27.0 km)

(h) Hoskote to Sarjapur (29 km)

(i) Sarjapur to Attibele (18 km)

Is Bangalore Police feeding these in to the right people? They are participating in BTRAC, so we have good reasons to believe that that this type of input is being worked on as we speak.

Just found the open talk - criticism and suggestions - interesting. That it is available on a sarkaari type website is even more interesting. That is why this post.

is it surprising that they have such insights? after all, along with BMTC, they are the only people on the ground on a day today basis, while BDA, BBMP and BMRDA who have all the levers and keys, deal with maps.

So, when they conceptualized ITPL, EC, BETL, sundry flyovers, grade separators etc., you think any body asked BCP if it was a good idea or what was needed to make it work?

BMRC and BMTC seem to be interacting a lot more with BCP than the rest of B*s.
