GOK passed the ITIR Act 2010 on Thursday, becoming the first state to do so. Per this DH Report:

The ITIR Act, 2010 will enable the state to attract a whopping Rs.2 trillion (Rs.2 lakh crore) global investments in the knowledge sector, boost exports and create 3 million jobs in a decade

Highlights:

  • Spread over 10,000 acres, ~40 sq kms
  • Companies enjoy tax benefits similar to SEZ units
  • 55 companies have already shown interest, incl Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Manyata; signed MOUs at GIM-2010
  • Notification issued for 2,000+ acres already. Phase 1 will cover 2,500 acres.
  • Deloitte is the consultant preparing DPRs and such.

Per that DH Report, IT/BT Minister Katta S Naidu says:

"The ITIR will be a self-sustainable integrated investment region housing IT, ITeS (IT enabled services) and hardware parks, supported by residential townships, a mini airport, high-speed railway network, shopping malls, hospitals and educational institutions among others"

Wonder why a mini-airport when BIAL is just 12 kms away, but.. that's what is said.

According to this Wikipedia entry, location is at the Nandi foothills between Chikballapur & Doddaballapur, in the Muddenahalli area.

Time line so far:

  • May 2008 - GOI adapts policy resolution
  • 28 Jan 2010 - GOK cabinet approval
  • 5 June 2010 - GOI Approval
  • 15 July 2010 - GOK passes ITIR 2010 Bill

Certainly on the fast track. Should see a lot of movement in the near future.

More buzz from the Indian Express:

Put up by a residential builder, it is a defining marker in the growth curve of Yelahanka.

V Madhu, Principal Secretary, Infrastructure Development Department of Karnataka, says the entire Hebbal-Yelahanka-Devanahalli stretch will see “substantial development” in the coming years, fuelled by a mega project around the airport encompassing an aerospace park, a financial district and the IT park, where, among others, Infosys has proposed to invest Rs 710 crore in a 12,000-seat software development centre and Wipro is set to develop a Rs 477-crore centre employing 15,000.

Objections against land acquisition....

From DNA (17/Aug):

...more than 100 farmers form Rabbanahalli village in Devanahalli taluk appeared for a public hearing with objections against the notification for land acquisition for the project. The farmers expressed their objections both orally and in written form before the special land acquisition officer of the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), Bangalore division.

The KIADB has issued notice to farmers about the land acquisition and asked them to file objections if they were against giving land for the project. It has also told them to be present before the special land acquisition officer at his office in Gandhinagar with their objections. As per the schedule, Rabbanahalli farmers came to the city on Monday and filed their objections.

If you are not happy, now is the time to complain.

...Ramanathapura, Aravanahalli, Doddagollahalli, Chapparadahalli, Byradenahalli and Linganahalli farmers’ objections will be heard on August 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24 and 25, respectively.

Objections seem to center around the theme that the area forms a catchment for river Arkavathi and that the land proposed for acquisition is fertile.

Songdo IBD way ahead!

Was reading about what South Koreans have done about implementing a business district close to their Incheon airport,,this is very similar to what blr is planning with the Devanahalli ITIR...except that our plan is a  non starter..

Here is a blue print on the SOngdo IBD

Its a self sustained hub with every need covered. All buildings are LEED certified .

They have done all this in a area of 1500 acres..whereas our ITIR already has 3800 acres already acquired by KIADB.

I would say not to part with this land individually to companies like infy to make them more real estate companies..instead get it developed with the help of international consulants as they did ITPL and make our ITIR a reality like below!

It needs a visonary for sure..but do we have any here now?

So called new Bangalore is being built by the people who are maintaining the current one. What can we expect? Vision is vague, plan is fancy, Execution is by neanderthals who will use the standard excuse, In India we are like this only.
