The following is the text of a mail posted on the "saveKoramangala" yahoo-group by Mr Nitin Seshadri, Sec, Koramangala 3rd block assn, says it all. I thought I must bring it to the attention of the entire city as an exemplary collaborative effort between citizens, BBMP officials, as well as the local politicians (more specifically, Sri Ramalinga Reddy, MLA BTM layout, as also Minister for Bangalore).
Many of you would have noticed a large vacant plot of land belonging to the Government also called the "beauty spot" in 5th Block Koramangala (on the left side of the road leading from Sukh Sagar towards Jyoti Niwas College).
A few weeks ago, in a case of brazen land grabbing, a private party had fenced off a portion of the land, had it levelled and declared it as a "car garage".
A few of us had raised this issue with the BDA and BBMP. After checking the documents, we raised this issue with the EE, BBMP Mr Jagannath and the AEE Mr. Pujar. We had also written a letter on this blatant land grab worth probably more than a 100 crores right in the heart of Koramangala to the BBMP Joint Commissioner (South).
We also were informed that the issue was taken to the Minister Sri Ramalinga Reddy who instructed BBMP to take tough action on this issue and retrieve the land at once.
Today at 7 AM a BBMP team demolished the illegal structures put up by the encroacher and reclaimed the land for the BBMP.
This incident shows that the price of continuing to maintain Koramangala as a place worth living in is eternal vigilance.
I think the BBMP & BDA officials concerned and our Minister deserve a round of congratulations for safeguarding this property. We now need to make good and sure that this stays in the BBMP hands and is properly developed as a tree park or similar facility.
