INDIA. Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) today announced the launch of a campaign to encourage citizens, passengers, employees and the wider community to give ideas on what they would like to see at the expanded Terminal 1.
The campaign - titled ‘Smile Bengaluru’ - features children in the visuals and is being strongly promoted on social media platforms as well as outdoor city hoardings, radio and the airport itself (see slideshow above for the campaign images).
The tagline is “Your airport is expanding. Tell us how you’d like it to be”. Respondents simply log onto www.smilebengaluru.com and post their ideas and requirements. All comments are transparent and viewable by all, and readers can vote for an idea they liked.
Ideas will be evaluated by BIAL and feedback posted on the ideas selected. Bengaluru Airport is the first Indian airport and one of the few airports globally to have opened its doors to ideas, thoughts and suggestions that may be considered to enhance its expanding greenfield airport.
Inclusive approach
BIAL Managing Director Sanjay Reddy said: “The Terminal 1 expansion of the Bengaluru International Airport will feature much more than what one sees today. From an enhanced and modern design to expanded commercial spaces, this truly will take the airport a step closer towards becoming the International Gateway to the South of India. And with this comes an opportunity for the city’s residents and airport stakeholders to share their thoughts and ideas on how they would like to see the expanded T1. After all, it is their needs that we serve.
"The launch of this campaign is testimony to our inclusive approach of involving the local community with the airport project. These ideas and suggestions will be considered to shape the future of Bangalore’s expanding airport.”

Can we give a comprehensive idea on the terminal?
Can we give a feedback, ideas involving all the praja members?
I would like to suggest the following:
1.We do not see much local language and culture reflecting in the terminal, can we add the local flavour
2.Can the terminal be made green? LEED certified?
These are not part of the terminal but still..
3.BMTC buses are doing a great job but do we have a kiosk for a BMTC personel within the terminal ? Or say a display before the exit, pamplets with route maps?
4. The Taxi stand looks chaotic can we have a more professional way of handling the queue ?
We could have done it here for them
May be people like the hassle of building and maintaining separate websites. Or may be that they want to "manipulate" or "moderate" feedback. But BIAL could simply have collected feedback on a real local community like praja. Anyway.
