Fuel Subsidies, Road user fee - Common sense prevails, At Last

Some positive developments - long overdue, though not very comforting for the car-dependent public in bangalore. Following are excerpts from an on-line headline news portal :

Highway Safety in India

I was recently driving on the NICE Road between PES College to Somapura Intersection. My car was the only car and I was cruising at around 90kph. While I was nearing the intersection climbing an uphill unable to see what is there on the otherside of the road after it flattens, suddenly I saw 6-7 people standing in the middle of the road which they are not supposed to be since it is a freeway.

Reviving Puttenahalli Lake

A couple of years ago, Puttenahalli Lake, JP Nagar 7th Phase (near Brigade Millennium) was a garbage dump. Today it is filled up with a fair amount of fresh water with 200 trees around and is home to more than 50 species of birds, including European migratories. My wife and three others, along with the BBMP, were instrumental in bringing the lake back from the brink of extinction.

Traffic Advisory Committee

The new Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Dr Saleem, IPS, has instituted a Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC), comprising traffic 'experts' from across the city, which incidentally includes three PRAJA members - Pranav, Sathya, and myself - to interact with the traffic police at the highest level on a monthly basis, with a view to finding solutions for the city&
