Title of the talk: Decongesting Bangalore - Innovative
Solutions for a Cleaner Greener Bangalore
Date & Time 8th April 2009 (Wednesday) - 4.00 PM
Synopsis:
The unprecedented growth of Bangalore has put a tremendous stress on its civil infrastructure, which over the past decade has been crumbling. Tell tale signs of this deterioration are there for us to see all across Bangalore. A planned approach towards decongesting Bangalore, could leave a legacy of a cleaner, greener Bangalore, restoring the old glory of this Pensioners Paradise.
The two new mantrsas that signal a ray of hope are : Citizen Participation in Governance and the Public Private PEOPLE Partnership? With the advent of public welfare groups armed with RTI, there is a semblance of accountability creeping back into the system. The willingness of the private enterprise to participate in the City future offers a much needed panacea that could transform Bangalore.
Not too long ago, a group of landscape architects had pleaded to the State to allow them to beautify the City. GREEN CONNECT, a citizen initiative, with corporate backing is looking at transforming the way we live and work. School Bus programs are today taking on a whole new avatar which could revolutionize the way we commute. Seamless integration of our transportation networks, be they planes, trains, or automobiles, cliché intended, will ensure a travel experience like never before. Sustainability being the mantra for a cleaner greener environment, has today broken down geographical boundaries as we all work towards protecting our planet. With an awakening of the conscience towards the future we leave behind, we are today at the crossroads of redefining our personal and public spaces.
